“I stopped drinking quite a long time ago … I stopped drinking, when did I stop drinking? It feels like forever,” Adele, now 35, shared. “Maybe, like, three and a half months ago.”

Though she seemed to imply it’s been a positive decision, Adele admitted that she’s been a bit bored without alcohol in her life. “I mean, oh my God, it’s boring,” she admitted. “I was literally borderline alcoholic for quite a lot of my twenties, but I miss it so much.”

This isn’t the only thing Adele recently cut out, either, as she said she’s also given up caffeine.

This isn’t the first time Adele has discussed her contentious relationship with alcohol. Speaking to Vogue in 2021, she admitted that her father’s battle with alcoholism is what caused him to be absentee for much of her childhood. “I was always very fascinated by alcohol. It’s what kept my dad from me,” she told the outlet. “So I always wanted to know what was so great about it.”

Also in 2021 – which is the same year her father passed away from a bowl obstruction – Adele released her song “I Drink Wine,” which provided more context about her struggles with alcohol stemming from her troubled childhood.

“When I was a child, every single thing could blow my mind / Soaking it all in for fun, but now I only soak up wine,” the lyrics read. “They say you play hard, you work hard, find balance in the sacrifice / Yet I don’t know anybody who’s truly satisfied.”

Adele’s recent decision to go sober may be motivated by a recent health diagnosis she received. Last month, the singer made a different revelation during one of her residency performances, confessing she has sciatica. She was diagnosed after collapsing backstage earlier this year.

Adele has been doing her Vegas residency since November 2022, though the show was initially postponed amid COVID concerns and reports of creative differences. She’s extended the residency to last until next June. And given all Adele is doing to prioritize her health, it seems like she has every intention of pushing through until her Las Vegas show concludes.
