Alison Hammond has lamented that her spell in Christmas pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk is entering its final week, after performing numerous times throughout December and January. The ITV star, who presents This Morning regularly alongside Dermot O’Leary, starred as The Spirit of the Bells as she tried her hand at her first-ever pantomime.

She’d been performing at the Hippodrome in her home city of Birmingham and loving every minute of the lively role. With just a week left before the end of her run, the “gutted” presenter took to social media to tell fans: “Hi everyone, I’m just giving you a heads up that there’s only seven days left until the end of Jack and the Beanstalk.”

“I hope you can come and see it. I am going to be gutted when it is over.” She continued: “But make sure you come and experience such a lovely, happy, funny panto at the Hippodrome in Birmingham. See you there!”

In a previous statement, she’d said that landing her first ever panto role was a “dream come true”. She added that it’s “no secret” how much she loves both theatre and Birmingham, and that she was looking forward to playing her role alongside the likes of Matt Slack, Doreen Tipton and Andrew Ryan.

The star has been pairing glam costumes and headpieces with glittery trainers for added comfort as she moves around the stage.

While Alison has been donning glitzy costumes in the West Midlands, where she still lives to this day after being born in the area in 1975, Sian Welby is temporarily taking over her This Morning role.

The programme’s Twitter account announced Sian’s co-hosting gig as fans suggested she could become the “perfect replacement” for Holly Willoughby.

A vacancy had been open since Holly and co-star Phillip Schofield both left the show last year.

Some praised Sian’s “fantastic” personality, while others are eagerly awaiting Alison’s return to co-host with Dermot.

Meanwhile, rumours have circulated that Alison could be about to take over from the late Paul O’Grady on his show For The Love of Dogs.

She’s certainly proved a hit over in Birmingham, where one reviewer at Theatre and Tonic exclaimed: “There are so many reasons to fall in love with this incredible show.

“Children will love it for the slapstick, the colours, the music (Alison Hammond doing TikTok dances anyone?) and all the audience interaction you can shake a stick at.”

Jack and the Beanstalk, featuring Alison Hammond, runs until January 28 at the Birmingham Hippodrome.
