Amanda Holden has paid tribute to her stillborn son Theo, who would’ve turned 13 today. Taking to her Instagram Story on Thursday during her Heart Breakfast show, the presenter shared a picture of a candle she had lit up in his memory.

Alongside the snap, she wrote: “You would have become a teenage today… #Theo,” with a love heart emoji. The Britain’s Got Talent judge was 28 weeks into her pregnancy with husband Chris Hughes when their son died and she had to deliver him by C-section.

Previously opening up about the tragedy on her show, Amanda, 52, expressed the importance of handling such a devastating time with thought, as she recalled a comment made to her by a medical professional.

She shared: “We lost our baby Theo at 28 weeks, and they very sensitively moved me into another room so I could deliver him without having to hear the lovely babies screaming on a normal ward. Often that’s not thought about, it’s little things like that.”

Amanda went on to say: “I remember the lady afterwards as well when we went for a chat, [she] also said ‘I know you’re going home empty handed’ is what she said to me. So I felt like some sort of game show contestant, so it’s all of that language that I know this charity will be helping people to avoid and educate them on how best to deal with something so awful. It’s just awful.”

Amanda however has nothing but praise for the NHS who she credits for helping her through the ordeal.

She shared: “I’ll literally do anything for the National Health Service because they got me through it, they got Chris through it and I now thankfully have two healthy girls and a little boy who is still part of the family but just not here.”

The traumatic experience, she added, left her husband “frightened” to have another child, as he didn’t want them to experience such pain again.

“It was horrific in the months after Theo,” she told The Sun.

“My husband was frightened of having another child, he never wanted to see me go through that pain again — and himself.

“But I knew in order to carry on and live life, I had to have a baby and I was lucky enough to have the choice and be able to have another one.”

Amanda and Chris, who married in 2008, share two daughters Lexi, 18 and Hollie, 11.

With Hollie’s birth, the talent judge suffered a torn artery and severe bleeding which led to a post-traumatic stress disorder.

Reflecting on her ordeal, she told Radio Times: “After that, I thought seriously about illness and assumed whenever I had a cough it was lung cancer.

“I’ve had therapy and was told I suffered from post-traumatic stress syndrome.

“I assumed that was what people had in Afghanistan, and I haven’t fought a war, but maybe I have in a way.”
