Arnold Schwarzenegger Called This Film His Worst Ever, But Rotten Tomatoes Disagreed Giving A Different Movie A 0% Approval Rating

Arnold Schwarzenegger is one of the biggest movie stars to walk the planet, and at the height of his career, he was collecting some of the biggest paychecks in Hollywood. Everything fell into place for Arnold, but despite having a wealth of hits to his name, the truth is that he has also had his share of duds.

Red Sonja is a film of his that has plenty of fans, but the actor considers it his worst. Interestingly, Rotten Tomatoes disagrees, and they have other films ranked far below Red Sonja. In fact, the film that they have ranked as the worst of his career has a 0% on the site, a distinction that few films can lay claim to.

Let’s take a closer look at the film that Arnold considers the worst, and see which film Rotten Tomatoes has as the worst one that he made in his legendary career!

Arnold Schwarzenegger Called Red Sonja His Worst Film

Red Sonja, released in 1985, was a fantasy adventure film that marked Arnold Schwarzenegger’s return to the sword-and-sorcery genre after his success in the Conan the Barbarian series. Despite high hopes, the film failed to capture the imagination of audiences and critics alike.

Red Sonja was widely panned by critics upon its release. It received scathing reviews for its lackluster storytelling, poor dialogue, and unconvincing special effects. The film’s critical reception was so unfavorable that it has since become synonymous with cinematic failure.

In addition to its critical reception, Red Sonja also struggled at the box office. Despite featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger, who was a major box office draw at the time, the film failed to recoup its production budget and was considered a commercial disappointment. This underperformance further cemented its status as a cinematic misstep.

Said Arnold, “It’s the worst film I have ever made”

He also took a major swing at the film, jokingly, of course.

“When my kids get out of line, they’re sent to their rooms and forced to watch Red Sonja 10 times. I never had too much trouble with them.”

According to Rotten Tomatoes, the film has a 21% with critics. This is terrible, but somehow, it’s not even the worst movie that he’s been in.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is renowned for his iconic roles in action films like The Terminator and Predator, but in 1979, he took an unexpected detour into the realm of slapstick comedy with The Villain.

The Villain, also known as Cactus Jack in some regions, is a comedy-western film directed by Hal Needham.

Schwarzenegger plays the role of Handsome Stranger, a heroic cowboy, while Kirk Douglas portrays the film’s titular villain, Cactus Jack Slade.

The Villain received overwhelmingly negative reviews from critics upon its release. The film was criticized for its slapstick humor, simplistic plot, and lack of depth in character development.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has a 0% rating, the lowest of Arnold’s career. There are films that don’t have a rating, so we are picking this one, as it’s the lowest that actually has a rating.

Simply put, it’s terrible, and thankfully, completely forgotten about.

For Arnold, it’s certainly a lowlight, but in the grand scheme of things, the man has had a wonderful career, and has been in multiple films that have hit at least 90% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Terminator, the action classic, is currently ranked as Arnold’s best film, with a sterling 100% with critics.

“With its impressive action sequences, taut economic direction, and relentlessly fast pace, it’s clear why The Terminator continues to be an influence on sci-fi and action flicks,” the critic’s consensus reads.

Incredibly, following 2 outstanding documentaries on the list, Arnold’s next best movie is none other than Terminator 2, which is widely regarded as one of the best sequels in history.

Per TMFF, “Terminator 2: Judgment Day was such an incredible improvement on its predecessor, it was almost unbelievable. Cameron finally had the budget to show what he could do, and the picture enabled him to cement himself as one of the elite action directors in the business. The sequel made $520 worldwide and was met with resounding positivity from critics. Roger Ebert awarded it 3.5 stars out of 4, and had nothing but praise for the acting, story, and action sequences. Almost every critic said the sequel outdid the original in every department.”

After decades in Hollywood, it makes sense that Arnold would have a wide range of films on the critical spectrum. Thankfully, hits like Terminator have far-outweighed duds like The Villain and Red Sonja. It’s just proof that all stars with long careers have to undergo serious peaks and valleys in entertainment.
