While many have noticed an apparent weight loss in images of Austin Butler from yesteryear to today, the actor has only ever admitted to gaining weight. Of course, this was for his role as Elvis in his later years. According to Life&Style, Butler claimed he was trying to pack on the pounds to play Elvis in the later part of the film.
“My agent actually told me, ‘They don’t know if you can play older Elvis, so I think you need to gain some weight.’”
Butler went on to claim, “I really started to pack on some pounds. It’s fun for a week or so, and then you feel awful about yourself. But we were planning on shooting chronologically in the beginning. That quickly went out the window, and especially with COVID, it was just impossible.”

He was then fitted with “various physical things” to play a larger Elvis Presley in the second half of the 2022 movie. This reportedly included prosthetic cheekbones and makeup. In numerous Dune: Part 2 promotional interviews, Austin Butler admitted to wearing a bald cap to play his villainous character. He was unable to shave his head due to being scheduled for another movie where he had to have longer hair.

On his TikTok, plastic surgery expert Dr. Gary Motykie, M.D., claimed it was “difficult to tell” whether or not Austin Butler got rhinoplasty. This is one of the most prevalent plastic surgery accusations leveled against the Carrie Diaries actor. The rumors stem from an alleged difference in Butler’s nose before his role in Elvis.
Dr. Motykie claimed it was difficult to tell if Butler received the nose procedure due to different lighting and angles in the images that were presented to him.
“I do notice that, in some photos, there is slight more definition to the bridge of his nose as well as the width of the base of the nose seems slightly narrower. And the tip, slightly more projected.”
Dr. Motykie claimed that “if” something was done, it would have been a small tip graph to make his nose appear more defined. But it wouldn’t have been an “extreme rhinoplasty”.
