BBC Strictly star Annabel Croft’s fate sealed with ‘disadvantage’ in semi-final, pro says

Strictly Come Dancing contestant Annabel Croft is at a “disadvantage” for next week’s semi-final, according to former Strictly pro Brendan Cole.

47-year-old professional dancer Brendan, who appeared on the BBC show between 2004 and 2017, has said the dance chosen for 57-year-old Annabel “definitely” won’t work in her favour.

This week, Annabel and her professional partner Johannes Radebe will perform the salsa to You’ll Be Mine by Gloria Estefan, as well as a Viennese Waltz. Speaking to Sky Bingo, Brendan said: “The one at a disadvantage [next week] is definitely Annabel with a Salsa dance.

“Ellie [Leach] has a small disadvantage with a Cha Cha, but I think she’s going to do well because she’s quite small. Generally shorter people achieve a good Cha Cha, taller people tend to do a terrible Cha Cha,” he added.

“She’ll be ok, Layton [Williams] will be fine and Bobby [Brazier] will be just normal. His Paso Doble might be a little weaker than what you might want, but it will be ok I’m sure.”

Brendan also explained how Annabel has “really surprised” him throughout the competition, describing her as the “ideal” Strictly competitor.

He said: “Annabel Croft has really surprised me because I thought she was going to last three weeks, and she’s lasted ten. This has been no easy feat for her and she’s not showing any signs of stopping, she just keeps getting better.

“She’s actually the ideal Strictly competitor, she doesn’t just stay level and average. She is improving week after week and keeps going through.

“Well done to Johannes [Radebe] for that and well done to her for continuing to keep herself in the competition. I think [the performance] was quite something – she’s not my favourite dancer, I don’t think she’s a natural dancer but I think what she’s doing is brilliant for her.

“You can’t compare her and Layton [Williams] or Ellie [Leach], that would be like watching two different shows, but she’s holding her own and doing what she needs to, to get through, which is just brilliant.”

Strictly Come Dancing returns this Satuday at 7.35pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
