Recently, Eddie Murphy was asked if he had any advice for Nick Cannon who has 12 children with six women who reportedly all get along, including his ex-wife Mariah Carey. The former has 10 children from five women: three ex-girlfriends, one ex-wife, and a current fiancée. “Lord have mercy,” the Norbit star said of Cannon’s big family, “He don’t need no advice (laughs).”
Years before Murphy’s comment on the rapper-turned-multi-millionaire TV host, the latter said in an interview that the movie star inspired him to pursue comedy alongside music. “All things Eddie Murphy,” he said when asked about his “influence” growing up. Now, it seems like he’d subconsciously taken after the Nutty Professor‘s family choices as well.
But while Cannon has to travel all over every Christmas to visit all his children, Murphy manages to get all of his kids together every holiday, including this year. Murphy’s firstborn, Eric was born in 1989. His mother, former actress Paulette McNeely reportedly had a short-lived relationship with the Beverly Hills Cop back then. Not much is known about McNeely and her romance with Murphy; much like Eric who only gained attention lately when he started dating Martin Lawrence’s eldest child, Jasmin, in 2021.
Interestingly, the couple didn’t meet through their dads. “It wasn’t even our dads, and they’ve done two movies together, they’re friends,” Jasmin told InTouch Weekly in 2022. “We met through my uncle, and we became really good friends, we bonded on a lot of things, obviously we have similar backgrounds, so we understood each other on a certain level and over time it just became more.”

In 1993, Murphy tied the knot with actress and model, Nicole Mitchell in a $1.5 million wedding ceremony at the Plaza Hotel in New York City, attended by 500 guests. They have five daughters together: Bria, Myles, Shayne, Zola and Bella. But in 2006, the two split, leaving Mitchell with a hefty $15 million settlement. Unfortunately, a conman later swindled her out of $7 million.
The ex-couple remain friends these days. “Eddie and I are friends,” said Mitchell. “He’s my babies’ daddy, so we speak to each other and have a great relationship and I think that’s important when you have children involved.”
Their children are all successful in their own right. Aside from co-founding the Los Angeles-based art gallery, ArtUS, Bria has starred in several Hollywood projects, including 2017’s Conflict of Interest. Myles keeps a low profile with her husband of three months, Carly Fink and their four-year-old daughter Evie (Murphy’s first grandchild).
However, Shayne and Zola are currently pursuing modeling after appearing on VH1‘s reality show, Hollywood Exes in 2014 with their mom and their sister, Bria. The youngest of the four girls, Bella, played one of Murphy’s daughters, Omma in the highly anticipated sequel, Coming 2 America (2021). She also did an episode of the Hulu series, Dollface in 2022.

Murphy and his fiancée, Australian actress Paige Butcher, have been together since 2012. They got engaged in 2018, two years after the birth of their first baby together, and Murphy’s ninth child, Izzy. A source said that Butcher “loves being a mom and is very involved. She takes her daughter to the park and for play dates.”
Paige Butcher started modeling around the age of six for her mom, a fashion designer. Her father, Robert Butcher, was also a model.
Their son, Max was born, two months after the Boomerang alum proposed to the Something’s Gotta Give actress. “[The couple] wished for a younger sibling for their daughter,” an insider said at that time.
On how Murphy spends quality time with all of his 10 children on Christmas, the Candy Cane Lane actor told People: “All the traditional things that everybody does, we do that. We have a lot of kids and have a lot of family. And it’s just the buzz in the house — it’s food, cooking and everybody. I love the Christmas season.”
