Throughout television history, there have been many popular talk show hosts who made it seem like their job was easy. In reality, however, the truth is that even the most successful talk show hosts have to deal with a lot of anger and hate. After all, Jay Leno’s name makes one huge star want to vomit, and David Letterman thought a guest wanted to beat him up.

When Sarah Silverman was briefly a talk show host, she welcomed the hilarious Bill Burr onto her show. Silverman likely thought she was going to have an easy time during their interview. Unfortunately for Silverman and Burr, however, they argued so much that their interview became very hard to watch.

Sarah Silverman Interviewing Bill Burr Is Almost Unwatchable

In 2017 and 2018, Sarah Silverman briefly became a talk show host. As the host of I Love You, America with Sarah Silverman, the famed comedian intentionally interviewed people she disagreed with. Even though Silverman was seeking uncomfortable conversations, her hardest-to-watch interview featured Bill Burr, a comedian she said she loved.

As Silverman’s interview of Burr began, it seemed like there was a nervous energy in the air. As Silverman first appeared to be dancing in her chair to her show’s music, she introduced Burr in a way that seemed familiar and confrontational from the start.

“I’m not related to my next guest, but we fight like siblings. Please welcome, brilliant comedian who I love to pieces, but who makes me f***ing crazy, Bill Burr.”

As the show cut to footage of Burr, he had his hands up in a defensive position as he shifted in his chair. Burr and Silverman began instantly bickering from the second that introduction ended. At first, the two comedians bickered about the true nature of their relationship.

John Stamos Walked Out Of His Interview With Conan O’Brien After Confronting Him About His Ex-Wife Rebecca Romijn

John Stamos confronted Conan O’Brien for flirting with the Full House star’s wife at the time, Rebecca Romijn.

Immediately, Burr chimed in and disagreed with Silverman’s introduction. “I thought we got along great.” In response, Silverman pretty much restated her original description of her relationship with Burr. “No, we love each other, but you always fight, we fight often.” Burr then proceeded to claim that Silverman was the reason for the arguments the comedians apparently had.

“No, it’s cause I go onstage and then you try to correct my jokes… Yeah, you do. You’re like, ‘But what if you said, If the woman did this because of this.’”

After Silverman admitted that she did try to change Burr’s jokes once, she brought up how many things made her guest mad. As Silverman explained, she believed that she essentially was a combination of many of the things that outraged Burr.

“Sometimes I read interviews with you, and you talk about everything you hate. And, if you added it all up, you would get me. But, somehow we love each other. Am I correct in saying that? I think that you love me. Cause every time we fight, as I’m driving home, I get a text from you that says, ‘You know I love you, right? And I go, ‘Yeah, I love you too.”

To Silverman’s credit, it takes a lot of courage to put yourself out there like she did when she said that. It takes even more courage to make yourself vulnerable to someone with a tongue that is as sharp as Burr’s. Unfortunately for Silverman, however, her comment led to more bickering with Burr.

First off, Burr remarked that he has never sent Silverman a text like the one she described. Of course, Burr is a comedian and that is hilarious, so he could have been joking when he denied sending texts like that.

Burr and Silverman then began discussing saving and deleting texts. At that point, Silverman explained that she had a morbid reason to never delete her texts. “All our friends die and then it’s all you have left.”

As anyone who watches talk shows will already know, hosts generally try to keep things light. As a result, it makes sense that Burr seemed legitimately taken aback by Silverman’s comment. After being uncharacteristically silent for a moment, Burr challenged Silverman to make comedy out of that.

Eventually, Burr admitted that he actually likes Silverman but feels like he drives her nuts. “I do like you, and I just, I always feel like you’re frustrated with me.” At this point in the interview, Burr commented on their postures. As Burr pointed out, Silverman was leaning into him looking engaged and he was as far back in his chair as he could be.

Based on how awkward the interview was up until this point, it makes sense that Burr would be in a defensive position. Amazingly enough, this was only just over two minutes into the interview, which lasted roughly seven minutes.

As the remaining minutes went on, Burr and Silverman eventually began bickering less. However, once Silverman began analyzing Burr, they became more antagonistic again.
