Kate Garraway is “devastated” says the presenter’s pal and meteorologist Clare Nasir.
The Good Morning Britain presenter’s friends have rallied around her as the ITN host revealed they are “tag-teaming” when it comes to taking care of her.
“We’re tag-teaming, my friends and I are on a rota to be with her. The other weekend there was a lot of making tea and cooking,” Clare told Closer magazine.
“We managed to play a couple of little games with the kids to add a little light. Kate waxed and waned – It’s just so sad to see, she’s just broken.”
She also opened up about how Kate has been coping with her loss and said the ITV host is “exhausted”.
Clare said the ITV star is currently in a period of “reflectiveness” and has been crying a lot.
The ITN host added: “She’s exhausted. When I was with her she’d had very little sleep. She’d been at Derek’s bedside night and day while trying to care for her family.”
Kate and Clare have shared a longstanding friendship having worked together on GMTV.
The 56-year-old’s husband tragically passed away while holding her hand, after a four-year health struggle brought on by Covid.
She announced the former lobbyist’s death who is survived by the couple’s two children, Darcey and Billy.
Taking to Instagram, Kate heartbreakingly penned: “I’m sad to have to tell you all that my darling husband Derek has passed away.
“As some of you may know he has been critically ill following a cardiac arrest in early December which, because of the damage inflicted by Covid in March 2020, led to further complications.
“Derek was surrounded by his family in his final days and I was by his side holding his hand throughout the last long hours and when he passed.
“I have so much more to say, and of course I will do so in due course, but for now I just want to thank all the medical teams who fought so hard to save him and to make his final moments as comfortable and dignified as possible.
“Sending so much love and thanks to all of you who have so generously given our family so much support. Rest gently and peacefully now Derek, my love, I was so lucky to have you in my life.”
