‘CBB’s Gary Goldsmith should shut up – he needs same eviction notice as Meghan and Harry’

After continued speculation and mounting pressure on Kensington Palace to shed some light on Catherine, Princess of Wales, the last thing they could’ve wanted was some blubbering brute spilling gossip on the royals in the Celebrity Big Brother House.

That’s exactly what Gary Goldsmith, 58, Catherine’s estranged uncle, has brought to the nation on ITV’s rebooted Celebrity Big Brother, which peaked at 3.2 million viewers during its launch; its largest audience since 2016.

Already facing eviction (which is hardly a surprise) is Mr Goldsmith, who makes the Antiques Roadshow a more exhilarating watch, which is a shame after we’ve waited six years for a decent series, only to be given Catherine’s wearisome, bald uncle.

During a conversation with Love Island winner Ekin-Su Culculoglu, the 29-year-old heartthrob and wannabe investigative reporter, Gary was asked a question on the lips of everyone sat at home watching these bunch of idiots parade around a warehouse in West London: “Where’s Kate?”

You’d almost expect everybody on their sofa’s to audibly gasp, as the former Love Islander wastes no time to get the inside scoop into the whereabouts of the Princess of Wales, who has remained out of the public eye since December 2023, following abdominal surgery at the London Clinic.

Mr Goldsmith, in the most tedious way possible, replied: “Because she doesn’t want to talk about… The last thing I’m going to do is… there’s a kind of code of etiquette.

If it’s announced, I’ll give you an opinion.” Yawn. Where’s the celebrity scandal the ITV bosses booked you for? I’m talking about

acerbic celebrity gossip like what Sharon Osbourne delivered to us about James Corden, accusing him of name dropping at any given moment. That’s what we’re looking for; not (presumably) rehearsed lines that would be worthy of a statement issued by the Palace.

This is the same Gary Goldsmith that was given a 12-month community order after he admitted to assaulting his wife in an argument, during which she accused him of taking drugs. Which led Women’s Aid to criticise ITV’s decision to allow a “[man] convicted of abuse” to be given the chance to appear on the prime time show.

A completely antithetical character to what we’re seeing on-screens, as the placid and somewhat eccentric uncle to the future queen seems to be doing anything he can to avoid reputational damage to his sister, Carole Middleton, and her daughter, Catherine.

The fact remains, this buffoon shouldn’t have been allowed in the Celebrity Big Brother House in the first place.

Of course we’re looking for killer one-liners and inside royal canards, but that’s not what the Middletons or senior members of the Royal Family need right now. Luring Gary Goldsmith as bait to the esurient British public, who are like piranhas waiting below the water’s surface for some royal scandal to devour at the expense of family grieving terrible news lately, is cruel and needless (which is hard for me to admit).

The King has been diagnosed with cancer and Catherine is totally out of action due to surgery, the extent to which is unknown to the rest of us. Give the family a break. Alas, the only justification for Gary being in the CBB House is because of his royal ties, so he has no choice but to keep prattling on to sustain his existence on the show.

So here’s hoping the British public will do the right thing and evict Gary before he slips up; that’s if CBB’s answers to Lorraine Kelly (Ekin-Su) continues her investigations into the disappearance of Catherine, Princess of Wales—who knows what her next line of enquiry will lead to.
