Coronation Street star Claire Sweeney has spoken out about her weight loss since beginning training for the ITV show Dancing On Ice. The 52-year-old actress is set to appear alongside Ryan Thomas and former Boxing champion Ricky Hatton, amongst other stars.

Before the live shows, stars participate in 12 weeks worth of training before they perform for the judges, including skating legends Jane Torvill and Christopher Dean. Claire has confessed that she jumped at the opportunity to participate in the reality competition.

The actress admitted: “I wanted to get a skater’s bum for Christmas!”. Former celebrities who have taken part in the show over the years have dropped considerable amounts in weight.

Speaking of Drag Race UK winner The Vivienne, real name James Lee Williams, Claire admitted: “I look at what The Vivienne lost, like nearly four stone”. She then added: “How wonderful to learn a new skill, get a really fit body, and you know what?”.

However, Claire has had to battle some confidence issues. The soap star said that as she grows older, she has become more cautious about taking on new challenges.

She shared: “As you get older, you get a bit more fearful and you get a bit more cautious.

“To really conquer something that is terrifying is wonderful”.

Claire revealed that she is a novice when it comes to competing.

Apart from the odd festive skate, she has never taken it up.

She quipped: “I’m being honest. I’ve spent years faking it from the waist up.”

“When I was in Chicago and other shows, I’ve faked it from the waist up for years but I don’t think you can do that with skating because you’ll be on your bum.”

Claire further quipped: “I can make nice shapes from the waist up but it’s the feet down.

“At the end of the day, if you can’t get over the fear, that’s the hard part.”

S Club 7 star Hannah Spearritt, former Love Islander Amber Davies and Olympic Gold Medalist Greg Rutherford will be joining Claire this series.

Also returning to the judging panel will be Olympians Jayne Torvill, 66, and Christopher Dean, 65, alongside Ashley Banjo and Oti Mabuse.

After weeks of anticipation, Holly Willoughby will make her return to the small screen after her shock exit from This Morning. The presenter departed last year, cancelling all TV work.

Fans were unsure if she would return, but it was confirmed by ITV that the blonde beauty would co-host with Stephen Mulhern.

This will be the first time in over two decades that the pair will be presenting together.
