David Letterman has been slammed over his treatment of Lindsay Lohan during a 2013 interview. The chat show host pestered the then-27-year-old actress for details about her rehab plans and addiction.

The actress was appearing on his show to promote Scary Movie 5 when the chat show host decided to ask the troubled star intrusive questions about her past.

Despite Lindsay Lohan’s obvious discomfort and heart telling the host that her healing process is “not a joking matter,” Letterman pressed the topic until the star was in tears.

Although the interview occurred in 2013, almost a decade passed when the clips resurfaced on TikTok and caused controversy.

How David Letterman Crossed The Line During Lindsay Lohan Interview

The interview between David Letterman and Lindsay Lohan started well, with the pair reminiscing over her 1992 appearance. But just three minutes into the interview, the host asks the Mean Girls star, “Aren’t you supposed to be in rehab now?”

Lindsay Lohan looks upset and is caught off-guard by David Letterman’s question. She defensively told Letterman that she had been to rehab that May. At the time of filming, the Freaky Friday star had just completed a court-ordered 90-day stint in rehab after pleading no contest to violating her shoplifting probation. The judge had given Lohan the option to attend an alcohol treatment facility to avoid jail time.

“How will this time be different? What are they rehabbing first of all? What is on their list? What are they going to work on when you walk through the door?”

David Letterman presses, after asking her invasive questions about her time in rehab. Despite Lindsay Lohan’s strained smile, the audience laughed at the exchange. Lindsay Lohan called him out for asking questions not spoken about or agreed on in the pre-interview with producers.

“I think, to be honest, I’m the happiest when I’m working, and the healthiest. And this is an opportunity for me to, you know, focus on what I love in life. And I don’t think it’s a bad thing. I think it’s a blessing,” she diplomatically tells him.
