Justin Bieber has publicly shared that he was diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome. The syndrome “occurs when a shingles outbreak affects the facial nerve near one of your ears,” the Mayo Clinic reports.
“In addition to the painful shingles rash, Ramsay Hunt syndrome can cause facial paralysis and hearing loss in the affected ear.”
Bieber had partial facial paralysis. The musician later updated his fans via an Instagram story (via Today).
“I wanted to update you guys on what’s been going on. Obviously, as you can probably see from my face, I have this syndrome called Ramsay Hunt syndrome,” he said. “It is from this virus that attacks the nerve in my ear and my facial nerves and has caused my face to have paralysis. As you can see, this eye is not blinking. I can’t smile on this side of my face. This nostril will not move. So there’s full paralysis on this side of my face.”
His health resulted in him canceling the rest of his Justice tour and focusing on getting the rest he needed.
Has Justin Bieber’s Health Affected His Marriage To Hailey Beiber?
Justin Bieber’s health diagnosis has likely been a shock for both him and his wife, Hailey Bieber, but it’s hard to believe she would not be supportive of him during this time. After all, she has spoken publicly about his mental health and shown her support.
“I had experienced so many things in my life,” Justin said in an interview with In Good Faith With Chelsea & Judah Smith in 2021 (via Billboard).
“So many milestones and traveled the world and seen everywhere in the world. And I just got to a place where I was lonely, and I just didn’t want to do it all alone. I realized there was some serious healing I needed to go through in order to get to a place where I could be in a healthy, serious relationship because I had a lot of trauma and scars. So I just committed to working on those things and getting healthy.”
He also addressed his wife, who joined him for the interview. “Even when we got married, there was still a lot of damage and hurt that I still needed to work through, but you’ve seen my heart through it all,” he said.
But Hailey Baldwin Beiber had no intention of leaving because she made a commitment when she said her vows. In the same interview, she opened up about this.
“I was in it. I made a decision,” she said. “I know for a fact that I’ve loved this person for a very long time and now would not be the time to give up on him. I just wouldn’t do that to him. Imagine abandoning somebody in the middle of the worst time of their life, potentially. I’m not that type of a person. So I was going to stick it out no matter what the outcome was going to be.”
That said, according to Geo.TV, a source has shared the problems the Biebers are currently facing in their marriage. And how the Ramsay Hunt syndrome has changed their bond. “It put more pressure on the relationship. Justin tends to take things out on Hailey. It makes her want to give up — she doesn’t understand why marriage has to be this hard.” The publication also notes how, earlier this year, Justin was photographed without his wedding ring.
Fans of the couple will remember they got married not long after rekindling their relationship. And their coupling has been plagued by reports of trouble in paradise. A claim from National Enquirer in 2023 (via The Sun) states that their marriage is “based on Justin’s childish needs, and it’s doomed. They got married very young and didn’t know what they were getting into, and it’s been up and down ever since.”

Hailey and Justin Bieber’s marriage has not been perfect, but they have both put in the work. In 2019, Hailey Bieber admitted in an interview with Vogue that marriage was hard – and this was early in their coupling. “The thing is, marriage is very hard,” she said. “That is the sentence you should lead with. It’s really effing hard.”
But people are too quick to jump to conclusions about the Biebers. After all, this is not the first health problem they have faced, and they have done it together.
“I just think life is changing all the time,” Hailey told Harper’s Bazaar in July 2022. “Day to day, week to week, year to year. I think a perfect example of that is over the last six months, both of us have gone through very serious health issues. You have to figure out how to deal with this s*** as it comes, you know? There’s a reason they say ‘for better or for worse.’ Like, that’s for real!”
And what about the reports that they rushed into marriage? Hailey has discussed this in an episode of the “Call Her Daddy” podcast in 2022 (via E! News).
“I think the timing was obviously very rapid and very fast, which now, being four years past that, looking back on it, I totally get it,” she said. “I’m like, ‘Yeah, that seemed really drastic and really crazy.’ But that was what we felt was a decision between the two of us, and it felt correct for the two of us at the time, and clearly we were right because here we are four years later.”
