Doctor Who star Ncuti Gatwa has taken to social media to show his support to Millie Gibson after her reported departure from the BBC series.
The beloved series is returning to screens later in 2024 for eight episodes, with Ncuti Gatwa taking over from David Tennant’s 2023 Christmas appearance.
However, Millie Gibson is reportedly only appearing in the one series, with her character Ruby Sunday being written out by show runner Russell T Davies.
According to The Mirror, Millie is being replaced by Star Wars actress Varada Sethu, who will take over in the next series.
An insider said: “Millie Gibson has all but left now and there’s a brand new companion, which is really exciting. Russell is keeping things moving and isn’t letting the grass grow, that’s for sure.”
Ncuti has now taken to social media to share his support to Millie after the news, as he shared a photo with Millie and wrote: “My lil [heart emoji].”
Meanwhile Millie is yet to break her silence on the reports, but is out of the country after she shared photos from Costa Rica on Friday.
The news comes just weeks after Millie’s first appearance as Ruby in the 60th anniversary special, which also featured Ncuti, David Tennant and Neil Patrick Harris.
In the episode, Tennant handed over the reins to Ncuti’s version of the doctor, as he “bi-generated” into two incarnations of the Time Lord.
Ncuti then made his first full appearance in the Christmas episode, with viewers being left stunned by his musical talents.
The Doctor and Ruby distracted the goblins by performing The Goblin Song, which had been released earlier in the month but their vocals had been kept secret.
