In 2012, Princess Catherine, who is typically known as Princess Kate, found herself in the headlines for a reason that would be horrifying for most people. Revealing photos of Kate were taken and published, much to her shock. At the time of the controversy, Donald Trump inserted himself into the drama by saying something shocking about Kate.

While on vacation in France with Prince William, Kate decided to get some sun. Initially, that involved Kate lounging on a private deck in a bikini. As time went on, however, Kate decided to take off the top part of her bikini while sunbathing.

At the time Kate was getting some sun, she had every reason to think that she and William were completely alone. Tragically for Kate, however, it turned out several photographers were watching the couple from afar.

While using a long lens, photographers were able to capture revealing images of Kate from far away. Those images wound up being published in the magazine Closer and seen all over the world.

After the photos of Kate went public, the vast majority of people reacted with empathy for her. However, some people had a very different reaction. One of those people was Donald Trump, who posted on the website then known as Twitter about the controversy.

“Who wouldn’t take Kate’s picture and make lots of money if she does the n*de sunbathing thing. Come on Kate!”

Princess Kate And Prince William Were Furious About Donald Trump’s Posts

Roughly a decade after Donald Trump called out Princess Kate, a biography on King Charles III was published. Titled “The King: The Life of Charles III”, the book which was written by Christopher Andersen appears to reveal how the Royals reacted to Trump’s posts.

According to Andersen’s book, King Charles III has been bothered by Trump on multiple occasions. In some cases, Charles was frustrated by things that didn’t really matter that much.

A perfect example of that is that Charles reportedly was “disappointed” when Trump messed up his title in 2019. That year, Trump labeled Charles the “Prince of Whales” in a post he published on the website then known as Twitter.

Andersen’s book also claimed that Charles was upset by comments Trump once made about Princess Diana. During an interview on The Howard Stern Show, Trump boasted that he could have romanced Princess Diana.

Most importantly, for this article, Charles reportedly was furious about Trump’s reaction to Kate’s photos, according to Andersen. In fact, the book claimed that Charles and his sons all unleashed “torrents of profanity” in reaction to Trump’s posts.

The Photographers Who Took Revealing Princess Kate Photos Were Put On Trial

Based on Donald Trump’s posts about the photos of Princess Kate, he seemed to think she was the only one who did something wrong. However, France has stricter privacy laws than in America, and they were used to put several of the people involved on trial.

According to a May 2017 article about the lawsuit, it wasn’t only the photographers who were taken to court. Instead, Closer’s owner and the magazine’s editor also found themselves in court alongside a pair of photographers.

Ultimately, the royal couple didn’t get that much, but they won in court in September 2017 and were awarded what most people would consider to be a lot of money. An article by The Guardian revealed how much Kate and William were awarded.

“Twenty-four hours after the announcement that Kate and Prince William were expecting their third child, the court in Nanterre, west of Paris, awarded them €100,000 (£91,000) in damages and interest to be paid by the celebrity magazine Closer and two photographers.”

The Guardian continued, “The magazine’s editor and the CEO of its publisher were each fined a further €45,000 – the maximum allowed.”
