Eamonn Holmes shares emotional update from home after GB News absence sparks concern

Eamonn Holmes alarmed some fans when he failed to make his usual appearance on GB News alongside Isabel Webster, instead he was replaced, as of Tuesday morning, by Stephen Dixon. The 64-year-old veteran presenter offered no explanation as to why he wasn’t fronting his usual Monday to Thursday slot – but he did speak out over on Instagram.

He posted a picture of his and wife Ruth Langsford’s beloved dog – a Collie cross called Maggie – standing next to a very accurate sculpted interpretation of her. “Things that give me Joy. Maggie and her statue. I smile a mile,” he told almost 800,000 followers, punctuating his emotions with a love heart emoji.

However, the snap caused some confusion, with one amused fan writing: “Looks like two Maggies. I really thought you had a new puppy!” “For a split second I thought you had two dogs!” echoed another.

“Such a good likeness, it’s beautiful. Next commission Ruth maybe?” a third enquired, referencing the presenter’s Loose Women star wife. The snap attracted thousands of likes, but some fans were still concerned over Eamonn’s absence from his usual TV slot.

Meanwhile, replacement Stephen Dixon took to Twitter to jokingly grumble that taking over Eamonn’s role was cutting into his sleep schedule. “I only get one day of a sleep in and messy hair this week…. On @GBNEWS Breakfast from tomorrow right through till Sunday…” he told followers.

So far, there’s no news regarding the reason for the shake-up, which saw Eamonn appear for the first and final time of the week on Monday.

He was vocal about the ITV drama Mr Bates vs The Post Office that day, which is based on a real-life story of a faulty computer system falsely accusing subpostmasters of siphoning away large sums of money.

“Pressure is mounting on the Prime Minister to finally compensate all those people who were wrongly accused,” Eamonn exclaimed.

“All those postmasters, 100s of them still waiting for a settlement, still waiting for justice and then there are those smiling bosses who ran the post office at the time.

“So far only a fraction of those convicted have been cleared but the ministers are set to meet today and the idea to exonerate those involved in what is being called the biggest miscarriage of justice in recent British history,” he continued.

Eamonn has made a courageous return to television, despite suffering a series of mobility setbacks over the years and at one point, needing to be pushed in a wheelchair.

He had spinal surgery for three slipped discs back in 2022, but within weeks, had a monumental setback after falling downstairs and smashing his shoulder.

He continues to try various remedies for his back, having admitted to Best magazine: “Some people think I’m fixed but it just looks like that on TV!”

Breakfast with Eamonn and Isabel airs Monday to Thursday at 6am on GB News.
