Emma Stone Refused To Answer If Taylor Swift’s Song Was About Her

At the 2024 81st annual Golden Globe Awards, Emma Stone and her friend Taylor Swift were both in attendance, much to the delight of the media and fans.

While Stone was nominated for her role as Bella Baxter in the fantasy black comedy film Poor Things, Swift was nominated for Best Cinematic and Box Office Achievement for her The Eras Tour film.

Emma Stone later took home the highly coveted Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy Motion Picture, while Swift’s documentary was beaten by the film Barbie.

After the awards ceremony was over, Stone made headlines after she sarcastically responded to a question by the press about her reaction to Swift cheering her on during her win.

Emma Stone jokingly insulted Taylor Swift by saying: “What an a**hole, am I right?” before adding: “I’ve known her for almost 20 years, so I’m very happy she was there. She was also nominated tonight, so I’m very happy she was there — but what an a**hole.”

But that wasn’t the first time Emma Stone had been forced to answer questions about Taylor Swift.

Host Graham Norton, who is no stranger to awkard interviews, asked Stone a series of questions about her and Swift’s long-time friendship in the middle of the interview about her film.

He first asked if she had gone to any Eras tour shows. Emmas Stone answered that she had gone to see 3 of Swift’s performances so far before her Poor Things co-star, actor Mark Ruffalo, joked that he could see a picture of Stone at the concert in the image of Swift that was projected on the show’s TV screen.

Norton continued the barrage of questions about Taylor Swift and asked Stone how they met, to which she recounted that they met when Swift was 17, and she was 18 at an awards show.

Stone then added that what was unique about the first night of Taylor Swift’s Eras tour was that the first show she attended was in Phoneix, Arizona, her hometown, and that famed dancer Mandy Moore, who was the choreographer of Stone’s 2016 film La-La Land, was also Swift’s choreographer for her tour.

Graham Norton continued the conversation by mentioning one of Taylor Swift’s songs, “When Emma Falls In Love”; Norton then awkwardly asked Stone if she was the inspiration behind the famous song.

Stone appeared briefly uncomfortable at the question before evading it by saying he would have to ask Taylor Swift about it.

Norton was slightly taken aback and joked that he figured he would ask her while she was there on the show as the audience laughed tentatively.

Norton then told himself to shut up and move on from what had become an awkward line of questioning.

In another interview, Stone told Entertainment Tonight that they would have to ask Swift about the song.

While Swift has not commented on who “Emma” is, it is unlikely that she will, at least not any time soon, as the talented songstress is famous for leaving the people she writes her songs a secret.

In an October 2015 interview with Extra, Taylor Swift expanded on her reasoning behind not revealing who she writes her songs about to the public:

I don’t feel there is any injustice when people expand beyond my music and speculate on who certain songs might be about.
