Redditor @SufficientPlatform39 wondered if Kyle was inspired by the Vanderpump Rules infidelity scandal that helped Ariana Madix earn money and made VR the most talked about reality show of 2023. They also mentioned that since Mauricio’s Netflix series Buying Beverly Hills was gearing up for its season 2 premiere in March 2024, it’s possible that Kyle and Mauricio’s separation could draw people to that show, too. The fan wrote:

Since Kyle Richards and Mauricio Umansky always seemed happy on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, news of their separation was surprising.
In February 2024, Kyle appeared on TODAY With Hoda & Jenna to share the reason that she and Mauricio separated. She explained that after her friend Lorena Shea’s tragic 2022 death, she began thinking about her life, and felt that she couldn’t ignore that she was unhappy in her marriage.
Kyle said, “I think there were certain things that were there that we had kind of been putting on the back burner for a long time. You know, you’re pregnant and you’re breastfeeding. And then it was working and juggling the kids and you kind of forget about it, and then it resurfaces again.”
She added, “And I think I just kind of came to a, I would say a breaking point, honestly. And I’ve gone through a lot. I lost my best friend, and I think that really does change you and makes you look at things differently.”

While Kyle Richards didn’t go into detail about why she wanted to take some time away from her marriage, Kyle was the one who made the decision. As Page Six reported, the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills said star on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, “It originated from me, I’ll say.”
However, the couple continued to be there for their children. In early March 2024, Entertainment Tonight reported that the whole family was there for Portia’s 16th birthday.
