Duggar Fans Noticed The Younger Kids Look Different From The Older Ones

With 19 kids over a span of 21 years, Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar have made the most of their DNA. But in a Reddit thread discussing the Duggar family, one fan pointed out what others had already noticed: many of the older Duggar kids don’t look like their younger siblings at all.
The original poster asked whether they were imagining things or if “the younger ones have less of an individual look about them?” The person also asked whether this was something that happened with DNA when it gets “old.”
While no one had an answer as to the possible ‘dilution’ of DNA, the top comment suggested there was one significant difference between the older and younger Duggar kids: epigenetics. That comment speculated that with better nutrition in the Duggar family’s later years (during their foray into reality TV fame), Michelle’s babies were different genetically from her earlier ones.
Various other comments speculated about the food situation for the younger Duggars, too, suggesting that those kids had access to food more consistently. There doesn’t seem to be any evidence of the Duggars not being able to feed their children pre-TV, but it’s true that the family embraces their reputation for being very frugal in all areas of their lives, including grocery shopping.
But there is a bit more to some of the family’s looks than a distinct difference between the older and younger siblings. While fans seem to think that the “different” look started after Joy-Anna (the ninth Duggar child), some also point out how different Josie (the youngest) looks.
Fans thought that Josie’s appearance was more due to her prematurity (Josie Duggar was born very early at 25 weeks gestation), but also noted a sibling she bears an impressive resemblance to.
There Are Some Family Resemblances Between The Older And Younger Duggar Kids

Fans suggested that between the Duggar kids’ two genetic parents, there are only so many possibilities, resulting in two different “looks” among the family’s 19 biological children.
Some joked that Michelle and Jim Bob had simply run out of ink, meaning their kids would all look somewhat alike, but that the genes were effectively being ‘watered down’ after so many kids.
None of that is biologically logical, yet fans found it interesting which siblings look alike versus which ones don’t. For example, fans thought Josie looked a lot like Josiah, the family’s eighth child, as well as Justin, the 14th, because all three are very fair.
Fans also thought that Jeremiah (the 11th child) and Jennifer (the 17th child) resembled one another, as well as Jackson (the 15th) resembling Jason (the 12th) and Justin (the 14th).
In contrast, fans thought most of the older kids (ninth and below) had very distinct looks compared to the younger set. But family resemblances aside, the younger Duggar kids really do have a different lifestyle than their now-adult siblings did, and not just because most of the older Duggars have moved away.
Not Much Is Known About The Younger Duggar Kids’ Loves Post-Reality Show
Ever since the Duggar family’s reality TV shows (both 19 Kids and Counting, which had an unaired episode upon cancellation and Counting On) were cancelled by TLC, not much has been revealed about the younger kids’ lives.
By the time Justin Duggar (who fans expect a baby announcement from in 2024) got married in 2021, Duggar weddings were no longer being televised via reality TV. That means the younger siblings after Justin — as well as any of the older siblings who get married, like Jana, Jason, and James — likely won’t have their courtships or weddings on TV.
As far as how the younger kids are living their lives, there’s no doubt a huge difference between living in a house of 20 kids (including Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar’s one-time adopted son) and one with eight. While eight is still a lot more than the average family in the US, a handful are adults, with the youngest child turning 15 in 2024.
