Fans Won’t Let Fergie Move Past The Time She Completely Forgot Her Own Lyrics While Performing Live

Highlights

  • Fergie’s debut album “The Dutchess” was a critical and commercial success, with five hit singles that solidified her as a talented solo artist.
  • Fergie’s performance at the 2006 Billboard Music Awards, where she forgot the lyrics to her song “Fergalicious,” was an embarrassing blunder that disappointed fans.
  • Despite the mishap, Fergie went on to have a successful career, releasing more albums with the Black Eyed Peas before branching out as a solo artist and pursuing other projects.

Fergie is a talented singer-songwriter and former member of the hip-hop group Black Eyed Peas, who branched out to create her distinct sound and music. She became a solidified solo artist with her debut album and had hit singles and critical success as an artiste, owning the airwaves between 2006 and 2007.

The “London Bridge” singer was well on her way to becoming one of the most iconic pop singers in the late 2000s, but not all went according to plan. While promoting her album and performing at shows, Fergie made a blunder, and fans can’t seem to get over the fact that Fergie once forgot the lyrics to her song while performing live.

She is still active in her music and life performances, but people often speculate her hit-and-miss at shows may be the real reason why she still keeps a low profile.

Before joining Black Eyed Peas, Fergie was a member of a girl group called Wild Orchid. The trio group had little commercial success before Fergie left the group in 2001 for personal reasons.

Fergie joined the Black Eyed Peas while the group prepared for their third studio album Elephunk (2003). Her pop vocals on the hip-pop base of the songs created a symbiotic sound that became an instant success for the group. Although Black Eyed Peas have been accused of selling out with Fergie’s pop sound, Fergie still shined as the queen among boys.

Fergie’s electric voice and sass to the song provided the needed attitude to complete the personalities of the group.

Elephunk was certified double-platinum and skyrocketed the dance hall and hip-hop group to international stardom. Fergie earned attention as the Queen of Black Eyed Peas, giving her the platform she needed to push her career.

However, Fergie went on to release Monkey Business (2005)—an even bigger success—with the Black Eyed Peas before getting started on her solo album.

On September 13, 2006, she released her first studio album The Dutchess. The album had five hit singles, “London Bridge,” “Fergalicious,” “Glamorous,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” and “Clumsy,” which solidified the album as a critical and commercial success.

In 2006, Fergie Completely Forgot Her Rap For “Fergalicious”

It was the 2006 Billboard Music Awards, and Fergie was part of the performing acts for the award show. She was to perform her new single “Fergalicious” from her debut album, The Dutchess, with then-bandmate Will.I.Am.

However, Fergie performed her hit song with a slurred delivery that seemed a bit slower than the beat. She stood in one spot for most of her performance, and when she did dance, her choreography was slower than the backup dancers.

The show continued in a bop until it got to the third verse, the rap. That’s where Fergie muddled her performance. The singer seemed to forget the rap lyrics to her song and mumbled through the verse.

This act is not to be confused with Fergie misspelling some words on purpose in the song, but Fergie completely bungled the lyrics to “Fergalicious” while performing at the 2006 Billboard Music Awards.

The performance was taken in awkwardly, with fans of the singer less pleased with her performance. Some had speculated that she was drunk during the performance, which led to the slurred and less-than-stellar performance. Other fans were unhappy that the artist did not take what was going to be one of her most important solo performances seriously.

The Billboard Music Awards was not the last time Fergie made a blunder on stage. In 2018, Fergie was invited to sing the United States National Anthem at the NBA All-Stars game. Instead of a mellow rendition with steady notes hit, Fergie sang a jazz-inspired version that ‘sexified’ the anthem.

Fergie, however, apologized for singing the anthem in that manner, saying she wanted to try something different.

Of course, Fergie has more than made up for forgetting the lyrics of “Fergalicious” when she performed the song again at the NRJ Music Awards in January 2007, a month after the Billboard Awards. She pulled a stunning performance without mumbling or forgetting the lyrics.

Afterward, Fergie Went On To Perform Solo

Fergie never addressed the reason for the forgotten lyrics and mumbled singing. However, fans have speculated on the strains from shows and Black Eyed Peas preparing for their next studio album.

After promoting her debut album with some live performance hiccups, Fergie joined the Black Eyed Peas to release two more studio albums, The E.N.D (2009) and The Beginning (2010), before leaving the group in 2018.

Fergie released her second studio album, Double Dutchess, in 2017 and continued her music and other related projects.

Aside from her music, Fergie also focused on her son Axl and other things like her wine brand. She has lived a relatively quiet life but remains active in the industry.

She may have forgotten the lyrics of her song during a live performance, and fans haven’t forgotten this, but Fergie still has one of the most successful debuts before the 2010s.
