Geri Halliwell’s friends are reported to be “astonished” by her united front with husband Christian Horner at the Bahrain Grand Prix. The Red Bull chief has been engulfed in scandal after facing allegations of inappropriate behaviour.

Former Spice Girls member Geri Halliwell, who married Christian in 2015, attended the race and held hands with the Red Bull boss as they made their way to the F1 hospitality area.

Christian, 50, had recently been cleared of wrongdoing after a complaint was made from a female Red Bull employee. However, 24 hours later, an email seemingly containing private messages between Horner and the female staff member who made the complaint, was sent out.

According to The Sun, Geri’s friends are reportedly “astonished” over her support for Christian. A close source said: “A lot of people who know her are astonished by this show of support. There is absolutely no doubt she is furious and has read him the riot act over what has happened.

“There are questions about her future with him and she let him know in no uncertain terms. It’s uncertain whether their marriage will survive but she is giving it a good chance by showing him support, at least in public.”

Horner has previously declined to comment on whether the leaked messages and WhatsApp photos were legitimate. He later gave a statement discussing a turbulent period for himself, his wife Geri and their combined three children.

He said: “It’s been very testing for my family but we are very strong as a family and our focus is on this race. It’s the start of the season, and the team have done an incredible job over the winter to be starting on pole position in the best place possible, so let’s see what we can do in the race.

“We are here to go racing and that is my job. So this is what we are focused on and this is what we are here to do.”

The leaked email, which included a Google Drive link, claimed to contain private text messages. Express.co.uk is not publishing details of the messages.

It is reported that the email was sent out to 149 people, including senior F1 executives and members of the media. Red Bull issued a statement on Thursday saying that this is a “private matter” and is an issue for Horner to resolve.

The statement read: “This is a private matter between Mr Horner and another and it would be inappropriate for Red Bull to comment on this.”

Christian confirmed that he will be at the next Formula One race in Saudi Arabia in a week’s time.
