Along with the big bank account, Cameron Diaz was also able to make some special connections. One of Diaz’s closest friendships came with Drew Barrymore. Given their closeness and the struggle Barrymore went through in the past with addiction issues, Diaz was none too pleased when her friend’s struggles were brought up during an interview.
We’ll take a closer look at Diaz’s time on The Kyle and Jackie O Show, and why things went completely south in a hurry. Sandilands was unapologetic after the interview and in fact, he wished Diaz would’ve got ads instead for her film at the time, Sex Tape.
Released back in 2014, the rom-com Sex Tape was a big success as the box office, bringing in $126 million off a $40 million budget. Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel were the major stars of the film, and as it turns out, certain scenes were a little more difficult to shoot than others. Diaz revealed that for the first time in her career, she bared it all for a certain scene. Of course given that it was for a comedy, Diaz accepted the condition.
She revealed with Too Fab, “It’s a first for me,” she tells the mag. “But Jason [Segel, her costar] gets naked, too. It’s just a part of the role. So I did it. I mean you see everything.”
Diaz stepped out her comfort zone during the film but given the way her career trended afterward, roles in film were few and far between. Nonetheless, Diaz enjoyed great chemistry with her co-star Jason Segel.
Taking on the role is one thing, but promoting the film is an entirely different animal. Cameron Diaz knows all about that given her lengthy career in Hollywood. While promoting Sex Tape, she would run into a forgettable interview on the Kyle & Jackie O Show. Things were completely derailed after Diaz’s close friend Drew Barrymore was brought up.
Cameron Diaz’s Mood Completely Changed After Kyle Sandilands Brought Up Drew Barrymore’s Drug Addiction Struggles
It stars off completely harmless but soon enough, things take a turn. Drew Barrymore’s past struggles with addiction are brought up, and Kyle Sandilands compares her to a character in the film. He said, “Let’s hope she misses out on the Drew Barrymore drug years, because those were a great thing to watch, but not so good to be in, I’d imagine.”
Understanding that the comment bothered Diaz, Sandilands adds, “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger,” he said.
From that point on, the interview was basically done, with Diaz giving the hosts very little in return. Diaz would add, “I’m sure, Kyle, you’ve never been through a drug phase, have you? Or alcoholism or anything like that? Pretty clean… always did it right? Congratulations.”
Despite the criticism of the interview, Sandilands didn’t hold himself accountable and instead, he mentions that Diaz should’ve taken out ads instead.
“Maybe, they should’ve just bought ads if they wanted to sell the movie.”
Jackie O wasn’t impressed with the moment either, pinning the blame on Kyle. “Good one, Kyle,” she said. “You ruined that interview… you brought up Drew Barrymore, her best friend’s drug addiction in the past. She’s her best friend! And then you brought up Benji. We all know how protective Cameron is about her private life.”
It turned out to be a forgettable interview, but not the first time Sandilands wasn’t impressed with a guest.
It Wasn’t The First Time Kyle Sandilands Took Aim At A Celebrity Giving Him Very Little
Hosts tend to gravitate towards celebs that are willing to spill the beans, especially when it comes to their personal lives. Kyle and Jackie O have interviewed several big name celebs, but it seems like some weren’t as talkative compared to others. Sandilands didn’t shy away discussing some of his worst conversations in the past. Among that list included one of the biggest TV stars of the 90s, and early 2000s, Matt LeBlanc.
Sandilands said about their moment together, “He was very arrogant and then he had to get hung up on and sworn at. And then banned from ever coming back again. Worst interview in the world,” Kyle Sandilands revealed.
“The guy said about 15 words in the whole interview,” Kyle continued. “I was really pissed off because I thought, why am I giving up my evening for these pricks?”
Jackie O claims that Kyle exaggerated how bad the interview was. In truth, Matt LeBlanc is very reserved in real life and nothing like his character on Friends. Because of that, interviewers have been disappointed in the past. Clearly, Sandilands was one of those people.
