Abbey Clancy got an insight into what it’s like to live in a stately home when she visited Longleat House in the latest episode of her ITV show Celebrity Homes.

In Thursday’s episode, former Strictly come Dancing contestant Emma Weymouth, Marchioness of Bath, opened up the property and revealed what family life is like in such an opulent home.

Before giving the tour of the 128-room property, she explained her motivation for allowing cameras in.

The star stated: “People don’t see our family home and it’s lovely to have Abbey here and take her in and show her where we sleep, where we make the tea and where we hang out.”

Sections of the house are open to the public, and it famously has a safari park in the grounds, so the family live in an apartment on the premises.

Emma described it as a “massive all singing, all dancing tourist attraction and family home”.

Despite having two young sons, the family heirlooms and antique furniture carry through to the living quarters.

Having walked past numerous family portraits spanning hundreds of years to get to their apartment, Abbey described the entrance hall as “like a runway”.

Emma revealed that her children have actually had kick-abouts there even though she doesn’t encourage it.

“A lot of the books are really special and they’re behind chicken wire and the chicken wire has been smashed off more than once by a rugby ball or a football,” she admitted.

As the tour continued Emma revealed that she does mix things up and her family dining room contains items from high street staple Zara alongside period-appropriate pieces found in auction rooms or online.

In a confession that many parents will relate to, she also said her sons wipe their hands on the chairs instead of using their napkins.

The pantry is full to the brim as Emma says baking is important to her. Meanwhile, the stylish and bright family kitchen as designed by Emma to be as practical as possible and contains “a lot of fridges”.

The billiard room is also the scene of a giant screen and has up lighters so that it can become a disco in the evenings. When questioned by Abbey, Emma acknowledged that they even pushed the sofas back to create more floor space.

The most modern room and one that Emma described as her favourite was a state-of-the-art gym which is extremely stylish but also practical.

Heading to the spacious and opulent bedrooms Emma revealed that the wallpaper has been hanging since the 19th century.

While it is restored from time to time the fact that it has lasted so long shocked Abbey who admitted she wallpapered her playroom last year and it was trashed already.

The one area of the home that was cluttered was the storage area for coats and wellies, which both women donned before heading to the safari park in Emma’s back garden.

Following the visit Emma observed: “She [Abbey] actually said that it felt really cosy and that’s really nice to hear because it’s hard to make a big space cosy.”
