Thanks to the Kardashian/Jenner clan’s reality TV empire, that family has become one of the most famous in the world. That is simply incredible, especially since some of Caitlyn Jenner’s kids want nothing to do with reality TV.
On the one hand, Caitlyn Jenner must be happy that so many of her kids are rich. On the other hand, Caitlyn Jenner has to watch her kids fight with each other and she reportedly has had a difficult relationship with some of them. With that in mind, many fans wonder how Caitlyn Jenner feels about her relationship with her kids.
Is Caitlyn Jenner Close With Her Children?
In loads of families worldwide, relationships can be in a state of regular flux. One week a parent is getting along with their kids great only for them to say the wrong thing and be on the outs the following week.
Given the fluid nature of relationships, it is impossible for outsiders to definitively state that Caitlyn Jenner is or isn’t on good terms with any of her children. A perfect example of that is Caitlyn Jenner’s relationship with her son Brody Jenner.
In recent years, Caitlyn Jenner has spoken about being closer to her children that weren’t mothered by Kris Jenner. Despite that, Brody Jenner spoke out in an August 2023 YouTube video about his opinion that Caitlyn Jenner was a distant parent to him.
In the YouTube video, Brody Jenner spoke about being excited to parent “differently than my father did”. Brody also stated that “growing up, [he] didn’t have the greatest relationship” with Caitlyn Jenner. Brody then went on to talk about the relationship his siblings had with Caitlyn Jenner.
According to Brody Jenner, watching Keeping Up with the Kardashians was a strange experience for him. The reason for that is Brody Jenner says he wasn’t used to seeing Caitlyn Jenner being such an “attentive” parent.
Worst of all, Brody Jenner spoke about Caitlyn Jenner not being there. “I can’t even tell you how many birthdays” Caitlyn Jenner missed “and I resent him for that.” In 2015, Caitlyn Jenner spoke to ABC News about some of her parenting regrets which relate to Brody Jenner’s comments.
“The big formative years for them, I was really struggling with these issues. I talked to all the boys about this after the fact, that, yeah, I didn’t do a good job. And I apologized to my kids for that.”
According to what Caitlyn Jenner told Piers Morgan in 2017, her relationship with her stepdaughters wasn’t in flux at that time. Instead, Caitlyn Jenner told Morgan that she’d lost any semblance of a relationship with her Kardashian daughters.
The reason for Caitlyn Jenner’s relationship with her stepdaughters falling apart seems to stem from 2015. When Caitlyn Jenner revealed to the world that she’d transitioned, she gave a series of interviews, the most notable of which was with Vanity Fair.
At that time, Caitlyn Jenner painted her long-time relationship with Kris Jenner in a very negative light. When those remarks came to light, it was no secret that Kris Jenner and her daughters were extremely upset, to say the least.
When Kim Kardashian was caught on camera in the immediate aftermath of that interview, she called Caitlyn Jenner out. “All Caitlyn can talk about is that my mom mistreated her and was awful and all these really rude things, when there’s no reason to bash my mom,”
During a 2016 episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Khloe Kardashian expressed her outrage at Caitlyn Jenner. According to what was said during that episode, Caitlyn Jenner reached out to express anger that Khloe Kardashian wasn’t supportive.
“I said, ‘You slaughtered my mother and you have the nerve to say, ‘What happened to family sticking together?’ I said, ‘You slaughtered my mother and you have the nerve to say, ‘What happened to family sticking together?’”
Five years later during a 2021 episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Khloe Kardashian gave an update on the state of things. According to Khloe Kardashian’s remarks, she no longer was feuding with Caitlyn Jenner but they still weren’t especially close.
“I talk to [Caitlyn’s friend] Sophia [Hutchins] very seldom and Cait probably every blue moon. It’s just because we’re busy, it’s COVID. There’s no beef.”
How Does Caitlyn Jenner Feel About Her Tumultuous Relationships With Her Kids?
At the end of the day, there is only one person who knows how Caitlyn Jenner feels about anything. However, if you take Caitlyn Jenner’s public statements at face value, it seems very clear that she has a lot of regrets. Most notably, Caitlyn Jenner seems to really regret the difficult relationship she has had with her kids at times.
In June 2023, Caitlyn Jenner posted something very revealing on Instagram. In her post celebrating Khloe Kardashian, Caitlyn Jenner wrote about her desire to have a good relationship with her stepdaughter.
“Happy birthday @khloekardashian Being your stepfather was, and is, one of the best things that I was ever blessed with by your mother. I promised your father that I would do my best to always be there for you kids and I know I haven’t been perfect but I will always love you and you are forever in my heart. I hope your day is filled with love, your kids, and happiness.”
Later in October 2023, Caitlyn Jenner shared a video of Kim Kardashian on Instagram. In the video, Kim Kardashian spoke about learning to be fearless from Caitlyn Jenner. In response to Kim Kardashian’s remarks, Caitlyn Jenner wrote about being proud to have her as a stepdaughter.
“@kimkardashian I am so proud to be your stepdad — always have been, always will be. I promised your father and I’ve tried my best to keep that promise and I love you to the moon and back. Always so proud of you. Love you.”
As revealing as those Instagram posts are, something Caitlyn Jenner said during an interview was even more meaningful. During Caitlyn Jenner’s aforementioned 2017 interview with Piers Morgan, she spoke about how sad she was to not have a relationship with her stepdaughters at that time.
“I don’t talk about that side of the family, I spent 23 years of my life with those kids – it’s difficult to talk about it, terribly terribly sad. I’ve lost all relationship with them, yes, I don’t talk to any of them anymore.”
