Eagle-eyed viewers spotted ITV’s official X account had been tweeting about The Traitors while Love Island aired on their sister station ITV2.

Taking to the micro-blogging site on January 18 @superTV247 wrote: “When The Traitors is so good that ITV are tweeting about it during Love Island.”

The account also posted a screenshot taken from ITV’s account which included a photoshopped snap of Traitors contestant Paul sitting in the Love Island villa.

It was captioned: “Shall we get him on the next season of Love Island? #LoveIsland #Traitors.”

Viewers were quick to react as @MsBookay commented: “I have to watch Traitors live but I’ll catch up on Love Island.”

@MrBsTweet replied: “I don’t want to wait till the next morning/day to catch either.”

@hittheoctave said: “Traitors isn’t a live show there’s no ads.”

@cathalhaughey quizzed: “Is love island that bad ITV are tweeting about the traitors?”

@joeeurovision commented: “If you can’t beat them, join them!” While @pcgonenuts added: “Addicted to both!”

@arjords quipped: “The easy ratio of itv, slagging off love island is crazy when you deep it.”(sic)

The latest series of Love Island is an all-stars version featuring memorable castmates from seasons gone by who, still single, have been sent to South Africa to find love.

Despite launching earlier this month at ITV’s coveted 9pm slot on a Monday evening, the series first episode peaked at just 1.5 million viewers.

In the first seven days alone the first episode of The Traitors saw an average audience of 6.4 million and more than doubled from the overnights (from 3.1m to 6.4m on 7-days for all audiences), with episodes 2 and 3 both at 6.1million, according to the BBC.

The finale week is set to drive even more viewers to binge as the series reaches its dramatic climax.

The Traitors, which airs on BBC One at the same time as Love Island, sees the second season come to a close as the show’s winner will be announced in tonight’s final.

Love Island airs tonight on ITV2 and ITVX at 9pm while The Traitors airs on BBC One and iPlayer at the same time.
