Jeremy Clarkson opens up on ‘miserable’ time with girlfriend Lisa amid hidden health scare

Jeremy Clarkson revealed that he left a luxury break with his girlfriend Lisa Hogan to go and get a 5cm cyst removed from his back. The Clarkson’s Farm stars had travelled to a wellness retreat for a week, and the 63-year-old hated the experience so much that he brought his operation forward.

Detailing his “miserable” time, Jeremy explained in a new interview: “Lisa took me to a health farm and, well, it was so miserable there that I thought, ‘I’ve got to have this cyst taken out at some point, I may as well go now’.

“So, I checked out of the whole place and checked into hospital, because it was more fun having an operation than eating juniper berries all day long.

“As I lay under the surgeon’s knife, I thought ‘this is preferable’,” he added to The Sun.

Jeremy said that his health scare caused him to lose a stone in weight, but thankfully the cyst was not cancerous.

The Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? presenter opened up about the retreat in October last year, explaining that his aversion began when he discovered there was no kitchen and no bar.

Writing in his column for The Sunday Times, he moaned: “There’s no breakfast. Not even a cup of coffee. Instead, I was given a glass of something called wheatgrass. I’ve eaten grasshoppers and tarantulas and I once had a seven-day egg which had bits of beak and an eye in it.

“All of those things were pretty awful. But nothing gets close to the gut-retching dreadfulness of wheatgrass.

“The day wore on and soon I wanted a drink. And then I wanted lunch. So I repaired to the communal dining room — the worst three words in the English language… I was so miserable that I elected to go into hospital and have an operation.”

Thankfully, Jeremy is now recovered and will be returning to TV screens this Sunday with his ninth series of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?

Jeremy, who replaced Chris Tarrant in 2018, confirmed his return on Instagram earlier this week. He wrote: “It’s back. Sunday at 8. A time slot I like to call ‘home’.”

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? airs Sunday at 8pm on ITV.
