Jill Scott wades into Football Focus debate after Dan Walker feuds with Alex Scott

Jill Scott has weighed in on the Football Focus debate, claiming that Alex Scott is doing a “terrific job” on the show.

In recent weeks, a row has erupted on Twitter between former Football Focus predecessor Dan Walker and current host Alex over viewing figures.

Dan posted a tweet on X, formally known as Twitter, saying it was “hard” to see Football Focus “struggling” amid reports of declining views.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, former Lioness Jill Scott has waded in on the conversation to explain why she isn’t worried about the BBC show disappearing.

“Sometimes comments are made and then people read into them a lot,” she started.

“I’ve just done a campaign recently with Heineken about like sometimes when females do something compared to males in the football world and kind of just highlighting that it’s okay to disagree with people’s opinions.

“But I think there’s been bits of sexism that’s come around recently, and I think that’s disappointing.”

Jill added that there are so many women involved in football doing a fantastic job.

“I like [Alex] Scott, Fara Williams, Karen Carney, and I just hope that we can get to the point one day where we’re not talking about whether it’s a female or a male, because it doesn’t matter whether I’m doing punditry and I’m talking about Lucy Bronze on the right wing or I’m talking about Kyle Walker on the right wing, it’s just football,” she said.

“I’m trying to put a positive spin on it.

“I don’t worry for Football Focus at all. I watch Alex on there, I watch Fara on there and I think they’re doing a terrific job.”

Alex, who replaced Dan on Football Focus in 2021, seemingly didn’t take the tweet to heart as she quickly fired back in the comments section.

The former Strictly Come Dancing star replied with a GIF of a TV character sipping on a drink and added the caption: “Interesting.”

Dan Walker soon defended his comment and was quick to say that Alex had “worked hard.”

He posted: “I’m not saying you haven’t Alex. It’s a saturated market and it’s hard work every week. I hope you have a good show today.”

Jill has recently teamed up with Tetley to launch the That’s Better That’s Tetley Moments campaign, nominating her Nan as a way to say thank you for her support over the years.

Speaking about the initiative, Jill said: “Obviously people are so busy with day to day life and work, and sometimes it’s nice just to take that moment to pause, have a cup of tea and just kind of give people a little boost.

“I got involved because Tetley’s have done a lot of research into kind of what does give you that boost and the realise that over 50% of people do enjoy having that cup of tea and it just makes the day that little bit better.”
