  • JK Rowling’s controversial views on trans rights have driven a wedge between her and Harry Potter stars Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe.

  • Despite their history together, Watson and Radcliffe refuse to stay silent on the importance of supporting trans rights, even if it means disagreeing with Rowling.

The relationship between JK Rowling and some of the Harry Potter cast seems to be broken beyond repair. The writer has expressed some very controversial opinions about trans people, which a lot of fans and even celebrities have considered to be harmful to the LGBTQ+ community.

Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson have both been very outspoken about trans rights and have not been afraid of standing up to JK Rowling and calling her out when they believed she was causing harm to the community. Apparently, JK Rowling is very hurt by the stance they’ve taken on the matter and expressed that, even if they apologized, she wouldn’t forgive them.

JK Rowling Won’t Forgive Emma Watson And Daniel Radcliffe

JK Rowling’s views on the trans community have caused a lot of outrage in the last few years and have caused her to lose the friendship and support of a lot of the Harry Potter cast, whom she was once very close to.

The writer has been very outspoken in her opinion that teenagers should not be allowed to transition if they realize they are trans, something she has received a lot of backlash for, and which Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe have intensely opposed.

JK Rowling was, apparently, very hurt by the actors’ lack of support for her controversial views, and recently expressed that she wouldn’t forgive them for not standing by her. When on social media, a user told her that Emma and Daniel owed her “a very public apology… safe in the knowledge that you will forgive them”, to which the writer replied, “Not safe, I’m afraid.”

She went on to say that “Celebs who cosied up to a movement intent on eroding women’s hard-won rights and who used their platforms to cheer on the transitioning of minors can save their apologies for traumatised detransitioners and vulnerable women reliant on single sex spaces.”

This stems from her many comments about how trans women shouldn’t be allowed in women-only spaces, one of her most controversial opinions, which both actors have specifically expressed their disagreement with.

There’s no question Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe loved and appreciated JK Rowling very much, but their drastically opposing views on such an important matter as trans rights have clearly caused a rift in their relationship.

Daniel Radcliffe made a statement to the Trevor Project, a non-profit organization for LGBTQ+ youth, making it clear that, despite his personal affection for JK Rowling, he wouldn’t stay silent about trans rights.

“While Jo is unquestionably responsible for the course my life has taken, as someone who has been honored to work with and continues to contribute to The Trevor Project for the last decade, and just as a human being, I feel compelled to say something at this moment,” the actor wrote.

“Transgender women are women,” he continued. “Any statement to the contrary erases the identity and dignity of transgender people and goes against all advice given by professional health care associations who have far more expertise on this subject matter than either Jo or I.”

Emma Watson, for her part, expressed her support for trans people just days after JK Rowling wrote a tweet against the term “people who menstruate.”

“Trans people are who they say they are and deserve to live their lives without being constantly questioned or told they aren’t who they say they are. I want my trans followers to know that I and so many other people around the world see you, respect you and love you for who you are.” She then added, “I donate to @Mermaids_Gender and @mamacash. If you can, perhaps you’ll feel inclined to do the same.”
