Monty Python and Fawlty Towers star John Cleese has taken to X, formerly known as Twitter, to details a disagreement with his tour promotor. The legendary funny man has claimed that he has been given no information about the box office receipts.

“I am having a disagreement with Howard Szegeti, the promoter of my present tour,” he wrote. “He is refusing to reveal the figures for the box office receipts.

Why would he need to keep them secret ? I was hoping to discuss this with him, but he ran away and now won’t communicate. Odd.”

The promoter Howard is president of Unique Lives and Experiences which also recently ran an event with the legedary Dr Jane Goodall. John is currently on a tour of North America, which began on April 3. The nine date series of shows is due to wind up on June 13.

Express.co.uk has contacted Howard Szegeti for comment.

It is a busy time for John who just a few weeks ago made an exciting Fawlty Towers announcement.

He posted an update to his 5.5 million X followers about the stage adaptation of the beloved BBC sitcom, which aired in the 1970s, will make its UK debut in May at the Apollo Theatre.

“Just over six weeks to go before we bring Fawlty Towers to the West End stage for the first time!” he exclaimed.

“I’ve adapted three of my favourite episodes and written a huge finale. It opens on May 4 – I do hope some of you will come to the Apollo Theatre on Shaftesbury Ave.”

The comedian has used material from The Hotel Inspectors and The Germans, from season one, as well as season two’s Communication Problems.

The “huge finale” is expected to bring together the endings of all three episodes.

Announcing the stage show last month, John said it was a “thrill” to be bringing the sitcom to the West End almost 50 years since it was first recorded.

He said: “We’ve been involved in the casting process for some time, being constantly reminded of what a wealth of acting talent we have in Britain – sorting the very, very, very good from the merely very, very good.”

The cast includes Adam Jackson-Smith as Basil Fawlty, Anna-Jane Casey as his wife Sybil, Hemi Yeroham as waiter Manuel and Victoria Fox as Polly the chambermaid.
