While people wonder about any chemistry between John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, Kelly Preston and John Travolta were definitely wild about each other. They were married for a long time before her passing, and over the years, some information came out about their relationship. Nicki Swift reported on the marriage that the couple had.
According to Nicki Swift, their late son Jett, who passed away in 2009 from hurting his head on a tub while the family was in The Bahamas, was autistic. The couple didn’t share this publicly, though, and people wondered why they didn’t talk about it.
Travolta and his Look Who’s Talking co-star also seemed to have romantic feelings for each other. According to Nicki Swift, Kirstie Alley told Howard Stern back in 2013 that he was her “greatest love” and they had an “emotional love affair.” They didn’t date, but Preston was aware of how Alley felt about her husband. It doesn’t sound like there was any bad blood between anyone and they were even all friendly.
According to People, Kirstie Alley talked about her co-star on the podcast Dan Wotton Interview. She said that she was married to Parker Stevenson and knew that she wouldn’t have an affair. However, she said:
“I consider what I did even worse because I actually let myself fall in love with him and stay in love with him for a long time.”
According to Nicki Swift, the actor also explained that he and Preston went to bed in the early morning hours.
“We’re like the Addams Family or the Munsters, living a sort of odd, nocturnal life. My kids probably stay up too late. My wife goes to bed around 3 a.m., and I follow around 7 a.m. — but it works.”

Another example of an odd thing that the couple did? Travolta had runways in his driveway so he could fly planes up to the front door of his house. He has been a pilot for several decades and this seems to be one of his passions in life. However, it’s still a little strange to hear about this as most people wouldn’t want a runway in their yard.
While fans might be baffled by some of these revelations, the couple was in love. In 2018, Kelly Preston appeared on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen and shared how much she loved her husband. She said:
“There’s too many best things. His lips, dancing, fun, laughing. [We dance] all the time, all the time. The kids dance with us, we go out dancing. We love it.”

How Did Kelly Preston Die?
On July 13th 2020, Entertainment Weekly reported that Kelly Preston passed away on July 12th 2020. John Travolta said:
“It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you that my beautiful wife Kelly has lost her two-year battle with breast cancer. She fought a courageous fight with the love and support of so many.”
In April 2021, Travolta was interviewed by Esquire Spain and talked about dealing with the death of his wife. He said that when someone is in that situation and other people tell them about their own pain, it can be tough to navigate through those emotions.
He explained: “The first thing you should do when you experience grief is to go to a place where you can mourn, without any interference. Even though it’s great to have company, sometimes it becomes like you’re helping them rather than putting yourself to work overcoming feelings of loss and grief.”
According to USA Today, John Travolta discussed his wife’s death a little more when he appeared on Kevin Hart’s Hart To Talk talk series and explained that he had some real and hard conversations with his son Ben. When his child worried that Travolta would pass away as well, the actor spoke to Ben about how death is a sad and unfortunate reality:
“Your brother (Jett) left at 16. Too young. Your mother left at 57. That was too young. But who’s to say? I could die tomorrow. You could. Anybody can. So let’s look at it like it’s part of life. You don’t know exactly. You just do your best at trying to live the longest you can.”
