Escape to the Country star Jonnie Irwin was inundated with compliments from his Instagram followers as he shared an update on his Christmas holidays. The presenter, who was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2020, revealed he was busy assembling furniture, and snapped a selfie wearing a head torch.
Poking fun at his headgear, the presenter pulled a face in the photo and captioned the shot: “You know when you’re getting old when you need to wear a head torch to assemble furniture..!” However, fans were distracted by Jonnie’s appearance for a very different reason.
The A Place In The Sun host’s followers were quick to comment on how “well” he was looking, enthusiastically telling the 50-year-old he was “looking great”. Another fan added: “Jonnie you look fantastic. Lovely to see, genuinely. Merry Christmas to you all x.”
An emotional Instagram user told the star: “Looking very well Jonnie ..so wonderful to see. Wishing you all a very happy Christmas xx.” A second person echoed: “You look great! Thinking of you & wishing you well. Happy Holidays to your beautiful family.”
A third fan agreed: “Your looking really well your face has filled out I hope you are doing well.”(sic) Others had also noticed a change in Jonnie’s appearance, after the star struggled with jaundice in recent months, with another of his followers commenting: “Looking well! Your face is filling out x.”
A fifth person poignantly shared: “M8 you look so well that’s giving me a boost right now thank you.”
A sixth fan told Jonnie: “Bless you.have a wonderful christmas just stay strong and well xxxx.”
Jonnie, who shares three young sons with his wife Jessica, has been keeping himself busy with renovating his home in the north east for his family.
The Channel 4 presenter was once given just two weeks to live by doctors after the cancer he has been fighting spread from his lungs to his brain, but he has defied predictions and has managed to stay positive despite his condition.
Jonnie recently took the opportunity to thank a wellness retreat for helping him throughout 2023.
He shared a photo of himself celebrating with staff from the retreat, who were wearing Christmas hats and jumpers, and wrote alongside the snap: “Big love and thanks to the @sereneti_health family for all the help this year. x #wellnesss.”
The television personality also recently enjoyed a sunny birthday holiday in Costa Del Sol, Spain with his wife Jessica and their sons, four-year-old Rex and three-year-old twins Rafa and Cormac.
