Julia Louis-Dreyfus Has Been On The Ellen Show A Ton Of Times
Julia Louis-Dreyfus first appeared on The Ellen Show during its second season, and she returned many more times after that. The first appearance was in 2004, but Julia returned to Ellen DeGeneres‘ talk show a whopping 15 more times, with her last appearance in 2022 before the show ended.
Talking to Ellen during one visit, Julia said she loved coming on the show, and she had a ton of great memories from it. During some appearances, Julia talked about her career, like the fact that the role of Elaine was only a bit part when she joined Seinfeld.
She also discussed the many roles that proved she got past the ‘Seinfeld curse.’
Other times, she shared stories about her personal life—like the time a nurse called her Elaine while she was delivering one of her children in the hospital.
And during one appearance, Julia shared that she feared one specific celebrity disliked her, and she noted that she didn’t think it helped that she and said celebrity were once on Ellen’s show together.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus Thinks Martha Stewart Despises Her
Fans will recall that Ellen often had multiple celebrities on her show, often to chat together or even do an activity (or dance). But in one instance, Julia seems to think the guest appearances didn’t mesh well.
Recounting a time when she and Julia Roberts both appeared on Ellen to do crafts with Martha Stewart, Julia prefaced her story by saying, “Martha Stewart hates me.”
When Ellen reassured her that wasn’t true, Julia buckled down, saying, “Yes, I swear to God she does. I swear. I have tried… This was not the only time I’ve tried to communicate with Martha Stewart.”
Referring to the video clip Ellen was prepared to show, Julia says it was clear that Matha “has no time” for her. In said clip, Julia attempted to chat with Martha. When she first asks Martha a question, Martha turns on her drill, which then breaks, distracting her.
Later in the attempted conversation, Ellen and Julia appear visibly uncomfortable, trying to use their drills for Martha’s wood craft, while Julia continues to interject and make conversation with Martha. Ultimately, she gets cut off before finishing her anecdote.
In another clip, Martha uses a saw to cut a small, drink coaster-size slice of wood and says she has ideas for more than 100 uses for them. Julia replied that she should maybe keep some of them to herself before the clip was cut off.
For her part, Ellen didn’t think there was anything wrong with the clip, and she told Julia so. Ellen also suggested that Martha was just focused on her crafts, which was the point of the segment, but Julia maintained that she was just trying to make conversation.
Martha didn’t seem to ever share an opinion on Julia, and she also appeared on Ellen many times over the years, though not with Julia again.
Julia’s Favorite Moment On Ellen Was Not With Martha Stewart
Julia told her entire Martha story to Ellen seemingly unprompted, because Ellen had actually asked her what her favorite moment was on the show. Since the Martha clip was clearly not it, Julia also described a visit to Ellen when she got to meet Joe Biden, who was then running for Vice President alongside Barack Obama’s bid for the presidency.
In the wrapup of this particular appearance, Julia’s last on the show, Ellen also gifted her a commemorative T-shirt. The reasoning? Julia apparently swore on set more times than any other guest on The Ellen Show.
It wasn’t Julia’s most notable on-screen moment of her career, but she seemed thrilled with the shirt, which said, “I swore on Ellen more than any other guest and all I got was this [censored] shirt.”
As for Martha, her appearances on The Ellen Show weren’t quite as hilarious, but Martha does have a reputation for being pretty fun. She may have even gotten Conan O’Brien drunk during one interview, and of course, there’s the fact that she’s close friends with Snoop Dogg.
Unfortunately for the actress, it seems she has no interest in becoming BFFs with Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
