Football pundit Chris Kamara says he has made huge progress in his battle with speech apraxia as he thanked Kate Garraway for her assistance.

The Good Morning Britain presenter, 56, recommended an “experimental” treatment in Brazil which enabled Chris, 66, to regain fluency in his voice.

During the new series of Dave’s travel show World’s Most Dangerous Roads, Chris said: “I’d say I’m 25 per cent away from the person I used to be.”

Former Soccer Saturday host Jeff Stelling, 68,and close pal replied: “Seventy five percent of Chris Kamara is more valuable than 100 per cent of a lot of people you see on telly.”

The broadcaster’s health was able to flourish thanks to Kate’s advice to visit Brazil after she took her late husband Derek Draper to Mexico for treatment after his speech was affected by Covid.

According to The Sun, Chris added: “The treatment has not been sanctioned by the world medical boards. I’ll be campaigning to try and get it over here.”

The methods used in the treatment to support those affected are unknown but he is advocating for it to be made available in the UK.

Chris was diagnosed in 2021 and first spoke publicly about his struggles with apraxia the following year, before stepping away from his role on Sky’s Soccer Saturday at the end of the season.

In his book Kammy: My Unbelievable Life, he wrote: “As I was gripped by apraxia, and the apparent hopelessness of my future, I’d been escaping more and more down to the animals at the back of the house.

“Animals don’t judge. You look after them and in return they show you unconditional love. I would talk to them as I stood there. I’d let all my innermost feelings tumble out. I didn’t need to worry about them noticing my slowed speech or my compromised stability.”

Chris and Jeff will discuss their hopes of working with each other in the future should the former’s health improve in next Sunday’s episode.

Elsewhere Kate had an emotional reunion with author Michael Rosen who shared a hospital ward with her late husband Derek in a candid conversation on GMB earlier this week.

Derek died in January following a heart attack after his health was devastated by Covid.
