After giving the usual thanks, Kieran Culkin made an unusual request to his wife, Jazz Charton, which momentarily stunned both the audience and his family. Winning an award like an Emmy is obviously very exciting and overwhelming, so it’s normal for some speeches to go a little overboard. Kieran Culkin’s speech when he won his Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series was very sweet, but also a little confusing and slightly controversial, since it was oversharing. After thanking his family and co-stars, he went on to thank his wife, Jazz Charton, and their kids. He, of course, expressed his love for them, but then things took a weird turn when he said he wanted more children. “You said maybe, if I win!” he added.

Later, when a reported asked him about that, he said he was referring to a conversation the couple had had months ago. Apparently, he’d been wanting to have more children for a while, and his wife, seemingly jokingly, told him she had one condition. “Jazz said, ‘Maybe if you win the Emmy’. I didn’t bring it up for months, and then when I won the Globe, I said, ‘Do you remember what you said?’ And she was like, ‘What? No. What did I say? I don’t remember this’.”
Kieran Regrets Exposing His Wife Like That
It didn’t take long for Kieran Culkin to regret his speech, because what he probably thought was a funny, harmless joke, was actually too revealing. According to the actor, when he reminded her of the conversation they’d had, his wife “spent the whole week nervous”, and knowing her husband was a joker, she probably expected him to pull something like that.
“Instead of just talking to her in private like a human, I just blasted her on stage, which was very rude,” he expressed regretfully to reporters after the event. “And that’s it. That’s the whole story. Anyway, the end.” Still, it doesn’t seem the awkward comment caused any real strain in the marriage. In fact, the actor made another joke to the reporters that same night, warning them that, if he did have another kid, he “wouldn’t name it Emmy, or whatever other cute little thing.”
One thing Kieran Culkin surely learned after this is that conversations about extending the family are better kept private, no matter how cute or funny it might be to share them with the world. However, if the couple do have another child, it will be a fun anecdote to tell them in the future.
