Jenny Eclair slammed “healthy young people” who sit in priority seats on buses and tubes – assigned for pregnant women and the elderly.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, the ex-Loose Women presenter detailed an incident on the bus that happened on Monday and launched into an expletive-filled tirade, however, didn’t receive the support she hoped for, saying she would keep her “trap shut” in future.

She wrote: “Healthy young people please f*****g stop sitting in priority seats on tubes and buses also don’t sit in the seats where the mums with buggies need to sit – and if I ask you to move so a v old man can sit down – don’t tell me to f**k off – you can f**k off – ok?”(sic)

Her initial post sparked a divide as social media users suggested some young people suffer from health issues that are not visible so are also entitled to sit in priority.

One person commented: “Jenny, not every disability is visible, these people may have a condition that would be classed as a disability, but it might not of been a visible one.”

Another wrote: “I get where you’re coming from with this but not every young person who looks healthy is actually healthy!”

While a third echoed: “Just to say, not all of us are as healthy or as young as we seem, sometimes I get on a bus if my pain levels are high and I can’t walk anymore, and the back of the bus has more vibrations and causes me more pain, it’s not always as it looks.”

Jenny went on to explain what took place on the bus in a follow-up tweet writing: “For everyone getting cross with me about not respecting those with invisible disabilities- this is a blow by blow account of the incident today – btw the 30 something had an empty window seat next to him and this is why I got furious.” (sic)

She added: “Here is situation – v old man gets on bus with walker, staggers down aisle, 30 something male sitting in aisle seat behind the buggy/ wheelchair space, he ignores old man, I ask him to move so man can sit with walker, he tells to f*** off. I get off bus, he follows me muttering.”

Jenny later returned and said: “Anyway have had MASSIVE telling off and in future will keep my trap shut if I ever see something I judge to be unfair on vulnerable people, in case I’ve got it completely wrong.”

While her post sparked backlash, others agreed with the comedian, as one wrote: “The 30-something could have explained in a reasonable manner and/or could have moved over to the window seat. No, he had to resort to insults.”

Another added: “I’ve worked on public transport (railway) for over 30 yrs, the ONE thing guaranteed to ruin the day, is the Public, too many people think they’re exempt from Rules, Timetables, By laws etc etc etc.”(sic)

Back in 2011, Jenny sat on the Loose Women panel alongside stalwarts Janet Street-Porter, Carol McGiffin, Denise Welch and Andrea McLean, however, after just a year on the show she was replaced by Corrie star Shobna Gulati.
