Loose Women’s Carol McGiffin slams Dan Wootton investigation as a ‘political witch hunt’

Dan Wootton was investigated by Metropolitan Police following last summer’s allegations of criminal behaviour and alleged sexual misconduct – which he has always strenuously denied – and he has now been cleared. Following the statement that there have been no arrests and Dan will face “no further action”, Loose Women’s Carol McGiffin took to Twitter to passionately defend the GB News presenter.

Expressing her opinion, she told her 460,000 followers: “It was a foregone conclusion no investigation necessary but don’t let innocent people’s lives get in the way of a good political witch hunt.

“F*** those nasty, evil, bitter psychopaths. Onwards and upwards @danwootton.” After allegations made against the multi-award winning reporter surfaced in the Byline Times, Dan claimed that he had made some “errors of judgment”, but insisted he’d never been involved in criminality.

In a statement issued by his lawyers, Dan has since told the nation: “I have now been completely cleared in two investigations by the Metropolitan and Scottish police, who have confirmed they will be taking no further action. “While I knew this would always be the outcome, the process is now the punishment, with social media acting as the executioner.”

He stressed that he wanted to exert the right to be “presumed innocent until found guilty”. “Margaret Thatcher once said that if you ever get trial by media, or guilt by accusation, that day freedom dies. She was right.

It is high time that all of our ancient rights were once again upheld, chief among them the right to be presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law,” Dan continued.

“If it falls to me to be the champion of those rights, then so be it. It is a fight I am more than willing to take up, not just for me but for all of us.”

Although the Met did not identify him by name, they have also released a statement saying: “In June 2023, the Metropolitan Police was contacted with regards to allegations of sexual offences committed by a man aged in his 40s.

“Officers assessed all information available to establish whether any criminal offence has taken place. An investigation was commenced into these allegations.

“All parties involved have now been advised that no further action will be taken. There were no arrests during the investigation.”

Dan was also suspended by GB News last September, after thousands of viewers complained to Ofcom over Reclaim Party founder and former actor Laurence Fox’s allegedly sexist rant about a female journalist.

Dan was challenged about his “failure” to challenge Laurence’s comments while on air – and he also had his Daily Mail column contract terminated at around the same time.

Express.co.uk has contacted GB News to ask whether or not the channel plans to reinstate Dan, whose 9pm slot on weeknights has since been taken over by Patrick Christys.
