Lorde appeared to hint that she’s preparing to release new music following the 2021 release of her latest album Solar Power, which didn’t receive the response the singer has admitted she hoped it would. Earlier this week, a fan shared a post on X (previously known as Twitter) and said they met Lorde on a New York subway.
Lorde’s Recent Sighting Suggests She’s Releasing New Music
The fan shared a photo of the singer wearing headphones around her neck and a sweatshirt draped over her shoulders. Lorde’s usually brunette hair was dyed bleach blonde and styled in two braids, while the singer flashed a big smile as she posed with the excited fan.
“Anyway I met lorde yesterday and let her know that she wrote melodrama for me specifically,” the post said.
After, a Lorde fan account shared the post and pointed out that the singer is known to listen to her own songs in public place as a test before releasing it globally. “A fan met Lorde on the NYC train yesterday!! The last time she was [seen] with headphones in NYC trains in 2017, she was testing her own album,” the account wrote.
Even more telling, Lorde replied to the account, saying, “I was in fact listening to myself.”
This isn’t the first time in recent months that Lorde suggested new music could be coming out. “These times are beautiful and they freak me out and there’s so much to tell you. No this is not the start of anything out there, just want u to know there’s a light on inside me … show it to you soon,” she wrote in an Instagram carousel shared in August.
A month later, she made another post where she claimed to be mainly “alone with my thoughts” and not “seeing many friends.” She added she’d been going “to bed thinking about what I’m making,” once again implying new material could be in the works.
Lorde Was Disappointed By The Reaction To ‘Solar Power’
Last year, Lorde opened up about how the critical reception to Solar Power wasn’t what she’d been expecting.
“I can honestly say [this] has been the year with the highest highs and the lowest lows I think I’ve ever experienced,” she said in an email newsletter to fans, released in August 2022.
“It took people a while to get the album – I still get emails every day from people who are just coming around to it now! – and that response was really confounding and at times painful to sit with at first,” the musician continued.
“I learnt a ton about myself and how I’m perceived by making and releasing this album, and I feel significantly more connected and alive in my art practice and life than pretty much ever before. Sounds dry but true!!!” Lorde added.
Solar Power was Lorde’s third album, and though it received mixed reviews, there’s no denying that fans are excited to see what she releases next.
