Gregg Wallace has revealed the heartbreaking news that his father-in-law has died.

The Masterchef star took to social media on Tuesday (November 21) and penned a short yet sweet tribute to the dad of his wife, Anna Wallace.

He broke the news by sharing a picture of his father-in-law, Massimo Sterpini, and Anna’s mother, Rina, to his 172,000 Instagram followers.

In the picture, the 66-year-old was wearing a blue button-down shirt while holding a glass of wine with his wife.

Gregg, 59, captioned the tribute: “Farewell Massimo Sterpini 1957-2023.

“My much loved (sic) father-in-law,” he added.

Fans have since flocked to the post to send their well-wishes to the couple and their son, Tom Wallace.

One Instagram user wrote: “My thoughts are with your wife and mother-in-law and you and all the family and friends at a very sad and heartbreaking time. May he rest in paradise and shine bright in your hearts always.”

A second commented: “Very sorry for your loss Gregg. Our thoughts are with you, Anna, Sid and all your family at this very sad time.”

“We are so sorry to hear such sad news. Such a wonderful man who I know you will miss immeasurably. Love to you all,” replied a third

Famous faces have also sent Gregg and Anna, 36, their condolences including 2019 MasterChef champion Irini Tzortzoglou who said: “Very sorry to hear about your and Anna’s loss Gregg. He was too young! RIP.”

Journalist Harry Wallop wrote: “I am very sorry to hear that, Gregg. Thinking of you & Anna and the family.”

Italian chef Gennaro Contaldo commented: “RIP very sorry.”

The news of Massimo’s death comes a month after Gregg revealed he was “very unwell” and was forced to cancel his birthday celebrations.

In an update, posted in October, the broadcaster said: “Lots of people are saying to me, ‘It was your birthday yesterday, hope you had a great day’. I didn’t do anything.

“I’ve been really unwell, but I am getting better day by day. Thursday or Friday I think was the worst.

“Unfortunately, it was my birthday weekend so I cancelled all my plans; Saturday night dinner with my [wife] Anna, Sunday I was supposed to be going out with the family, Monday I was supposed to be going out with my son, tonight I was supposed to be out doing celebratory stuff.”

He added that it was important that he “rest and get better” and that sometimes plans are scuppered because “that’s the way the cookie crumbles.”
