It hasn’t even been six months since Friends actor Matthew Perry’s death rocked the world, but his memory is currently being threatened by a group of hackers who tried using his platform to secure fraudulent “donations” from unsuspecting fans.
Various reports confirm that scammers have allegedly hacked Perry’s social media account in an attempt to elicit fraudulent donations.

Hackers Used Perry’s Foundation And Socials To Scam Fans
Initially, fans believed they were accessing the legitimate Matthew Perry Foundation, an actual fund established in honor of the Friends actor. However, they were redirected to a deceptive website soliciting donations through cryptocurrency.
The real foundation made a post to Instagram explaining the situation and warning fans to be vigilant.
“We have received reports that Matthew’s official X page has been hacked and is directing users to a fraudulent site soliciting donations via cryptocurrency,” the statement said.
“Please do not donate to this site or share the fraudulent posts on social media,” it continued. “MatthewPerryFoundation.org is the only website associated with the Foundation, and we are only accepting donations through this site.”
It’s unclear if it’s known who the scammers are or if they’re being held responsible for their actions. It’s also unclear how much money they were able to raise and if fans who donated will get money back.

During his lifetime, Perry openly discussed his struggles with addiction, which began during his time filming the hit TV show Friends. Throughout the years, Perry has been candid about his battles with substance abuse and his multiple stints in rehabilitation facilities. According to the autopsy report from the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner, Perry was determined to have drowned in the heated end of his pool in late October 2023. However, this was identified as a secondary factor in his death, as he was also found to have a variety of medications in his system that may have resulted in him going unconscious.
