Evans was found on the school security system wearing blue jeans with multiple holes, black tennis shoes, a black t-shirt, and a blue and black book bag, according to the reports. He was also dressed in a white mask. The school was placed on lockdown the day of the shooting so that investigators could conduct a search for Evans, who was still on the loose, according to investigators.
The suspect was seen dropping something in the parking lot dumpster, and police were called. In the dumpster, investigators discovered a small-caliber handgun inside a blue and black book bag. That bag matched the one seen being carried by Evans in the school video.
Officers were told by students that when Evans was approached by other students, he began shooting and then left school. Evans was said to live in Winston-Salem with his father.

Evans was apprehended shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Waughtown neighborhood. Fighting back tears, Winston-Salem Police Chief Catrina Thompson told a news conference that Mount Tabor High School was placed on lockdown as emergency responders, sheriff’s deputies, and police officers arrived to search for the suspect. Evans’ name was not made public for several weeks because the case was in juvenile court.
After a court hearing Thursday morning, the 15-year-old boy accused of fatally shooting a Mount Tabor High School student earlier this month in Winston-Salem was indicted and will be tried as an adult.
Evans appeared in juvenile court on Thursday. His attorney requested that he be released to his parents, stating that he was not a flight risk and that his family was concerned about him. The judge denied the appeal, keeping him in custody without bond. Additionally, Evans was charged by a grand jury. He is facing one murder charge with attempted first-degree murder.
J.D. Byers, who represents Evans, said he is eager to move the case forward and set a trial date. Additionally, the judge ordered to keep Evans in custody.
