BBC Breakfast’s Naga Munchetty has been at the forefront of the programme alongside Charlie Stayt for almost 10 years. However, the presenter often gets slammed by viewers when interviewing certain guests on the show.

Most recently, Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves spoke to Naga about Jeremy Hunt’s proposed budget plans. Although when the host was speaking to the MP, fans were quick to notice Naga’s constant interruptions.

Although it appears as though there’s a very specific reason for Naga’s interviewing technique. She told the Sunday Times: “One person’s spiky is another’s assertive.

“I’m there to ask questions for the audience and to make sure guests get the opportunity to tell their story. Part of interviewing is knowing when and how to draw out interesting facts.

“If that means a polite interruption it’s for clarity, not out of disrespect.” Although Naga has been at Breakfast for almost 10 years, she’s been part of the BBC for much longer.

She first joined the broadcaster back in 2008 as a presenter on BBC Two’s Working Lunch.

Outside of her TV duties, fans can listen to Naga on her BBC Radio 5 Live mid-morning show, which she’s been hosting since 2021.

Last week while presenting Breakfast, Naga suffered a slightly awkward moment when interviewing colleague Sara Cox about her new book Way Back.

As they touched on different personas people have, Naga insinuated Sara could be the “boring” person in her friendship group.

Asking Sara what her role is within her group of pals, she quipped: “You’ve got your persona on radio and we see you on Morning Live and we see you presenting various things.

“So you’ve got that persona, but are you, ‘I’m the happy one, I’ll keep the group up?’

“Or is that for telly? Where are you in the group?”

As Sara started to explain that she’d been told she was quite nurturing and a loyal person among her core friends, Naga couldn’t help but take a swipe.

Interrupting her with a cheeky grin, she asked: “Are you the boring one?”

Taken aback, she replied: “Am I the what? Boring one? What do you think, Naga?”

Although Naga added she believes personas change when people are around their close friends.

Answering her question, Sara said: “I’m actually not boring, but I am chilled. I’m quite laid back and a bit shy, actually.”

BBC Breakfast is available to watch weekdays on BBC One from 6am.
