Paddy McGuinness has opened up about his split from wife Christine after an 11-year marriage and three children.
Unlike most separated couples, 50-year-old Paddy and 35-year-old Christine continue to live together with their children; eight-year-old twins Leo and Penelope, and five-year-old daughter Felicity.
The Top Gear host recently discussed the living arrangements, saying that he and Christine sleep separately but still have love for each other, sometimes forgetting they are no longer a couple.
Paddy commented: “There’s no toxicity in the house, says it all really. We have separate bedrooms because we respect that we aren’t together anymore but, whether we work it through or we don’t, what we do have is a really, really lovely family unit at home. We both love each other.”
Speaking to The Sun, he shared: “We still hug, and we’re still messaging and phoning each other every day, we’re just not jumping into bed together any more.”
He added that despite confirming their split in 2022, neither he nor Christine are “rushing to get a divorce” and he has no plans to start dating others or joining dating apps like Hinge or Tinder.
Nevertheless, the Take Me Out presenter did share that he has been on two dates since his split from Christine, but they made him realise he is not ready for “that kind of commitment”.
Paddy’s comments come after The Real Housewives of Cheshire star confessed that their life hadn’t altered dramatically following their unexpected separation.
In a prior interview, she divulged that they have decided to coexist in their family home for the sake of their children.
She told the aforementioned publication: “It’s the one thing that we completely agree on the children’s needs come first. We don’t want them to be affected by anything. Patrick’s diary is busy, as it always is, so he very much dips in and out of the home, because he’s working away a lot.”
Christine acknowledged that her role remains the “same as when I was his wife” as she takes charge when Paddy is at work.
Earlier this week, Paddy gave an update on the health of his former Top Gear co-star Freddie Flintoff. The former England cricketer suffered serious injuries and was left “lucky to be alive” after a crash while filming the show in 2022.
Appearing on Monday’s Good Morning Britain, Paddy said “He’s alright. I’ve not spoke to him for a while, but you know he’s getting on with it and he’s a very resilient character is Fred so I’ve no doubt he’ll be right as rain.”
