Prince Harry has found himself on the receiving end of backlash once again, as critics call him out for being a hypocrite after attending an F1 Grand Prix event while advocating for climate change.
On Monday, October 23, The British royal was spotted at a Formula One Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, without his wife Meghan Markle in tow. But given that Harry has spoken about the dangerous of over-consumption of fossil fuels, many people were surprised to see him at the car event, given the unnecessary pollutant the competing cars will release.
Harry Is Doing More Harm Than Good To The Environment, Critics Say
Speaking to OK! Magazine, royal expert Michael Cole called out the prince for his apparent hypocrisy. “This is a classic case of ‘don’t do as I do, do as I say’, [and] it’s rank hypocrisy,” he told the outlet.
“It is hard to think of a less eco-friendly event than F1 racing, and there we have Harry in the Mercedes garage taking great interest,” Cole said in reference to photos showing Harry getting a detailed look at the cars.
“He has always loved speed, he had ‘Go Faster’ stripes on his pram as a baby,” the royal expert continued. “None of this Just Stop Oil mob were there either, they perhaps realized Texas is the oil state, and if they tried any of their little tricks there, they would have found the Texans a lot less friendly than the Metropolitan Police.”
This isn’t the only example of hypocrisy Harry as demonstrated, Cole alleges. He also adds that Harry and Meghan frequently take private planes, referring the recent time the pair took a private flight from Atlanta, Georgia to Canouan island in the Caribbean, shortly after speaking about climate change at a New York event.
“It gets worse. Having attended an eco event in New York, Harry and Meghan then took a private jet to the Grenadines to have a holiday,” he continued. “If you are going to promote these causes, you have to live by them. Practice what you preach.”
Harry And Meghan Say They’re Committed To Reducing C02 Emissions
Harry and Meghan, who are currently battling divorce rumors, have been vocally committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and helping to promote eco-friendly practices.
As noted by OK! Magazine, the couple released a statement via their Archewell website in 2021, sharing their commitment to going green. “As global leaders convene for COP26 to commit to solutions for our climate crisis,” it read. “All of us at Archewell, led by The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, share our pledge towards a more sustainable future by becoming net-zero by 2030.”
However, Harry’s hypocritical reputation may be catching up to him. He was previously removed from the board of directors of his eco-friendly initiative Travalyst. The company’s CEO released a statement at the time confirming the prince “remains an invaluable part” and “his role has not changed in any way.” However, the company declined to clarify why Harry was publicly removed from the board.
For now, Prince Harry has responded to the recent backlash over attending the F1 event in Austin.
