Renowned anthropologist Dr. Jane Goodall’s visit to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle after the birth of their first child, Archie, in May 2019, revealed telling insights into the couple’s views on royal protocols.

According to royal author Robert Lacey, Goodall, one of the first non-family members to hold Archie, playfully attempted to teach him the Queen’s wave, a gesture met with a firm response from Harry, indicating a desire for a different upbringing for his son.

This anecdote, shared in Lacey’s biography Battle of Brothers, occurred during a significant period for the Sussexes.

Meghan was working on a special edition of Vogue magazine, dubbed ‘Forces for CHANGE,’ to which Harry contributed by interviewing Goodall.

The meeting took place at Frogmore Cottage, their residence at the time, situated near Windsor Castle.

Harry’s candid reflections on his royal upbringing and its constraints were later detailed in his memoir, Spare, published in early 2022, highlighting his critiques of the traditional royal family lifestyle.

This moment with Goodall underscored the Sussexes’ commitment to forging a new path for their family, distinct from the conventional royal expectations.
