BBC presenter Ronan Keating has said his “heart is hurting” as he paid tribute to his late brother Ciaran on what would have been his birthday. The One Show host expressed his devastation, as he described how Ciaran had been “taken from us in the most horrific way”.

Taking to Instagram, 46-year-old Ronan shared a picture of him and Ciaran from when they were younger with his 533,000 followers. Beside the photo, the Boyzone star wrote: “Today was always going to be a tough one.

“What should be my Brother Ciaran’s Birthday is instead a day to remember he is gone,” he continued. “Gone too soon. Taken from us in the most horrific way.

“There is no easy way in grief, Just a coming to terms with your situation. We have all been left in this limbo without him.

“Questioning ourselves and our actions while he was on this earth ‘why didn’t we spend more time together’ ‘why didn’t we speak more’. F*** I miss my big Brother today and every day since he got on that Green bird to NYC in 1988.

He then implored his fans and friends: “Call your sibling, your parent, your child, your loved one. Don’t put it off don’t think they will be there tomorrow. Because they may not.

“My heart hurts today. For everyone that has lost a loved one too soon I feel your pain. I’ll light a candle for you C. Remembering you on your Birthday,” he signed off. (sic)

Earlier this year, Ronan’s older brother Ciaran died in a road accident when he was driving to watching his footballer son compete in a match. The 57-year-old died just hours before his son, Cork City FC’s Ruairi Keating, was due to celebrate his 28th birthday.

Ciaran was pronounced dead at the scene back in July, when his car and another vehicle in Swinford, County Mayo collided. The businessman and his wife Ann Marie had been planning to support Ruairi as he played for Cork City against Sligo Rovers in a League of Ireland Premier Division game.

Ronan’s followers took to the comments section to send their condolences following his devastating post. Valerie Keating agreed: “We are so sad today … sending loads of love Ro, see you Saturday for hugs.” (sic)

“Thinking of you all Ronan,” Kirsty Gallacher wrote, while Emma Wilson penned: “Sending so much love to you all today.”

“My heart and prayers are with you,” Ben Ofoedu commented, as singer Pixie Lott added: “Sending lots of love”.
