At the height of his career, Ryan O’Neal was a famous actor, made even more famous thanks to his relationship with Farrah Fawcett. Unfortunately for both Farrah and Ryan, they both became troubled and their relationship was fraught with struggles.

Not only that but the children they shared experienced trials of their own. Ryan O’Neal admitted to being a terrible father multiple times over the years, including to the one child that he and Farrah had together. Where did Ryan’s relationship stand with his kids when he died, and who stands to inherit the $30 million he left behind?

Ryan O’Neal Stated He Had Poor Relationships With Most Of His Kids

Out of four children, Ryan appeared closest to his son Patrick

Ryan O’Neal had four children, one of whom was Redmond O’Neal, Farrah Fawcett’s son. The other three O’Neal kids, Tatum, Griffin, and Patrick, all seemed to have had very different childhoods.

The first two children, born to Ryan’s ex Joanna Moore, have had troubling experiences with their dad.

Ryan once flirted with his daughter by mistake, but that wasn’t his only error as a father. He once shot a weapon at Griffin, who he said was a danger to himself as well as other family members at the time.

The Sad Truth About Redmond O’Neal’s Health

Ryan O’Neal and Farrah Fawcett’s only son, Redmon O’Neal, has struggled with mental health and substance abuse issues most of his life.

Yet middle child Patrick, born to Ryan’s ex Leigh Taylor-Young, seemed very close with his father. In the years leading up to Ryan’s passing, Patrick often appeared on his dad’s Instagram feed.

Ryan O’Neal’s final Instagram post was an image of an article about his attending an event in support of Patrick, suggesting that this was the child he was closest with. Since Ryan’s passing, Patrick has also shared various reflections on his father’s life via his social media.

On X (formerly Twitter), Patrick also wrote that he was not happy with some reporting on his father’s death, noting, “I just saw a national @CBSNews feature he foolishly cut on my father’s passing and it was trash. Same BS. Lazy journalism. I try to show how much my dad meant to me, how he was my hero, the best dad, and he didn’t even mention I was his son. 👎”

However close Patrick and his dad were, it remains to be seen whether Ryan planned to leave any of his money or property to his third child.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Ryan’s estate included valuable items such as an Andy Warhol painting of Farrah Fawcett (valued at around $24 million) and a $5 million home.

Everything We Know About The Hospital Redmond O’Neal Might Be Living In

Redmond O’Neal was sent to a hospital facility in 2019 and hasn’t been seen since. Where is he living now?

Interestingly, none of Ryan’s wealth seems to stem from money Farrah left behind; Farrah prepared a $4.5M trust for her son Redmond, which is managed by a third party, and Ryan reportedly had no access to the money.

When it comes to inheritors for Ryan’s estate, however, the fact that he had four children might complicate matters; there’s not one single person to leave the money to. And it seems Ryan had specific thoughts on who should have it.

Between the four O’Neal siblings, it seems that the inheritance may not be split evenly. The last known will of Ryan O’Neal suggests that only one of his children will inherit any money, and that is Redmond O’Neal.

According to legal documents examined by Radar Online, Ryan O’Neal’s 2013 will left his estate to Redmond O’Neal.

The legal document included the specific line, “The Trustee shall distribute all of my tangible personal property, except my two Ernie Barnes paintings, to Redmond.”

Farrah Fawcett’s Inheritance Caused Controversy After She Left Money To Her Ex- But Nothing For Her Actual Partner

Farrah Fawcett left $100,000 to her ex, while Ryan O’Neal suspiciously walked away with nothing.

The last known update to the will was in 2004, according to Radar Online as of its investigation in 2013.

Farrah Fawcett passed away in 2009, and it was largely circulated that she asked Ryan to take care of their son, although she also left a trust specifically to her son, without his father’s involvement.

Given that Ryan’s will remained unchanged in the years following Farrah’s passing, it’s possible that his estate will be given to Redmond or, rather, Redmond’s advisors.

Because Redmond O’Neal has reportedly remained in an inpatient psychiatric facility since 2019, it’s unlikely that he would receive the money directly, if he is the sole inheritor of Ryan’s estate.

Of course, there may be other complications, including the fact that a will can be contested by the deceased’s heirs, meaning no one knows anything for sure until the estate of Ryan O’Neal is settled.
