Rylan Clark in plea for help as he’s urged to go to hospital after bat encounter at home

Rylan Clark flew into a panic and debated whether he needed to dash to hospital after a dramatic encounter with a bat. The Celebrity Big Brother winner, 35, issued some choice expletives on Twitter (X) as he revealed the bat had launched itself onto his hand when he opened the front door of his house in Essex.

“A F***ING BAT JUST LANDED ON MY HAND WHAT THE F WHAT IS THIS. This ain’t normal surely WHY ME?” he wrote. Rylan descended into further panic after learning that there is a slim possibility of contracting rabies from bat bites in Britain.

The panicked X Factor star begged followers for clarification over the situation. “Right, can someone please assist because I opened my front door and something flew towards me, and a bat landed on my hand. An actual bat. Like a real bat,” he explained.

“It is five to five. I have not had a drink. This is not normal behaviour. Is it the snow? Can someone please tell me ‘cause bats don’t come and land on your hand! I’ve not been bitten or scratched I don’t think but google is giving it- go to hospital,” the alarmed star continued.

“I’m just gonna dip my hand in alcohol gel. Like seriously what are the chances. What is wrong with all these animals.” @hervision_free5 warned: “You need to get rabies meds @Rylan. My son had to have these after being bitten by a dog on hols. Was told by our doc in UK that bats carry rabies in saliva and if that gets into your eyes/mouth you can get rabies. Don’t need to be bitten/scratched. Get advice just in case!”

@J2801 chimed in: “My son works in wild animal rescue (UK) and cannot work with bats as you have to have a rabies jab to do that. I would suggest getting checked out ‘just in case’.”

However, @Pawsforthought42 calmed Rylan’s nerves a little by countering: “You’d know if a bat bit you, I was bitten by a bat in my own bedroom and it hurts like damnation!!!! I also had to get rabies jab and serum ‘just in case’ – v rare in UK but not impossible.”

“Good. Not for you obvs, but yeah I don’t think I’ve been bitten x,” Rylan wrote in reply.

However, @Ali_Lloyd insisted: “I worked at a GP – we were told bats’ teeth are so fine you may not know you’ve been bitten and any contact was given precautionary rabies injection.”

Rylan didn’t respond to this particular post, but did start cracking jokes, quipping of his gleaming dental work: “Maybe this explains the teeth!”

When another fan claimed: “I had a bat fly straight into my face at our house in France. Frightened the s**t out of me”, BBC Radio 2 host Rylan replied: “Did you die?”

The NHS website describes rabies as a rare disease, which some bats in the UK carry, and advises that the condition is “almost always fatal once symptoms appear”.

The site continues that it can be transmitted via either a bite or scratch from an infected animal, or a lick on certain body parts – eyes, nose, mouth, or any area where there’s a wound.
