Rylan Clark left fans emotional over clips of his mother Linda celebrating on New Year’s Eve. Linda rang in 2024 dancing and propping up a bar with her presenter son after spending months recovering from a horrific fall.

BBC Radio 2 host Rylan, who had to book a private jet to fly his mother to hospital when she fell on holiday in September, took to his Instagram Stories to share the 71-year-old’s fun night out in a series of videos.

Linda, who also has Crohn’s disease – a type of inflammatory bowel condition affecting the length of the digestive system – was seen dancing at the Sunday night gathering in one clip.

In another, she is seen seated by a bar joined by Rylan and a group of guests singing along to Tina Charles’ song I Love to Love.

The previous day, Linda was invited to give an end-of-year speech to listeners on her son’s Radio 2 show and was introduced by her son, whose real name is Ross, as the Duchess of Essex.

She then began the speech by saying: “Right everyone, you alright? It’s been one hell of a year, ain’t it Ross? Eurovision in Liverpool. The Lionesses coming so close. Becky Hill winning a Brit.”

She continued: “As you all know, it’s been a tough year for me. I’d like to thank all the nurses, doctors, physiotherapists and pilots who have helped me get back on my feet. And of course you too, Ross.”

She added during the speech on Saturday: “And how lovely it’s been listening to Scott [Mills] and having Vernon [Kay] join Radio 2 properly. Lovely. Steve Wright’s Sunday Love Songs is still the best show on radio. Sorry about that Ross.”

Linda, who has appeared on Celebrity Gogglebox with her son, concluded: “I hope 2024 is lovely for everyone listening. I’m off to Lakeside to get some new boots, as well as a ham and cheese toastie.”

Fans took to the comment section to share their delight at the speech. One wrote: “I have no idea why this made me well up.”

Another replied: “Me too I think it’s because we love the Duchess of Essex.”

A third said: “Happy New Year Linda and Rylan, loveliest mother and son Duo, hope 2024 brings you everything you wish for and more,” while a third commented: “Linda has just won 2023.”

“Saturdays wouldn’t be the same without you Mummy Linda!” one fan beamed.

Rylan has been routinely sharing updates of his mother’s health with his two million instagram followers.

The broadcaster has previously revealed that Linda’s health struggles with Crohn’s disease had seen her nearly lose her life “three times”.
