Gomez was under the impression that there were fans waiting backstage to meet her, based on what her friends and handlers had told her. However, the “fan” was a setup to get Gomez to meet LaBeouf.
As Gomez pokes her head into the dressing room where she thinks her fans are waiting, she sees LaBeouf. Recognizing who it is, Gomez immediately turns around and takes off, not knowing what to say.

“Hi,” Gomez replied.
“Hi. How are you?” LaBeouf asked.

“I told her that we couldn’t tell her to go down there because she won’t,” Gomez’s mom, Mandy Teefy, explained on the YouTube video. Teefy has suffered from health issues over the years, but at that moment, Teefy was excited that Gomez got to meet LaBeouf, even if she was responsible for fibbing about fans being in the dressing room instead.

However, after said fanbase saw the video of Gomez meeting LaBeouf, the reactions were overwhelmingly positive. Not only did they think the meeting went better than Gomez did, they loved her for how she behaved when her celebrity crush was sprung on her.

“Yeah,” Gomez replied. “I am.”
“Have you met him? Gomez is asked. “Are you mates with him?”
Gomez replied, “No. I’m not mates with him. But I met him. Embarrassed the hell out of myself.”

“Oh, it’s online,” Gomez responded.
The interviewer asked, “What did you do?”
“My mom tricked me. I was shooting a show for an appearance in America and they were like, ‘There’s a fan in the other room. As soon as you’re done with the interview, go in and say ‘Hi’,” Gomez explained. “I was like, ‘Okay’.”
Gomez went on to say, “So I walk in and I was like, ‘Hi’. He turns around and he knew I had this crush on him… I had accidentally walked into his room and I just freaked. I froze. I turned around and started running down the hall and then he chased me down.”
“That’s kind of a mean prank,” the interviewer said.
“It’s hilarious now, but yeah,” Gomez stated. “It was pretty awful.”
While there was no type of falling out between Gomez and LaBeouf, their meeting over a decade ago never led to any type of friendship. Perhaps it was because she was romantically linked to Bieber at the time. It could have been because of the age difference and not having anything in common to talk about.
But at the end of the day, Gomez has a great story to tell about the time that she met her celebrity crush and how she handled it, which in all honesty, is how any teenager with a celebrity crush would have reacted.
