Sir Rod Stewart brands Boris Johnson a ‘lying f*****g public schoolboy’ as he backs Labour

Sir Rod Stewart has been a life-long Tory voter but has now announced that Keir Starmer and the Labour Party “deserve a chance” of taking over. The 79-year-old, whose new album with Jools Holland, Swing Fever, will be released later this month, says he used to see Boris Johnson as a “good figurehead”.

However, he’s since done a dramatic U-turn, suggesting that he was a Conservative supporter when he wasn’t based in the UK, but that he’s around to see the issues unfolding at home. He told The Times: “Keir Starmer and Labour deserve a crack at [running the country].

“If there was anyone else we could vote for, maybe, but they should be given a shot. I live here now. I didn’t used to and I see what the Conservatives get up to.” The rock legend added: “[Boris Johnson] turned out to be a lying f*****g public schoolboy. He got found out and things haven’t been much better since.”

He also addressed the issue last summer, after a report by the privileges committee found the ex-PM had “deliberately misled” the public over his alleged breaches of lockdown rules at Downing Street. Meanwhile, a furious Rod warmed to his subject and also slammed the idea of unelected Prime Ministers, which have not been chosen by the public, with the latest one being Rishi Sunak.

“How many prime ministers have we had that haven’t been voted for? What’s all that about?” he exclaimed. Rod is taking a keen interest in politics after returning to Britain following a 30-year stint in Los Angeles, California.

He denied claims by GB News reporter Kinsey Schofield that he’d become disillusioned with the “toxic culture” stateside, telling Chris Evans on his radio show that he “loves” the city, but thinks it’s now time to “move on”.

He listed his huge nine-bedroom, 12-bathroom home for sale for $80 million (£63.35 million) with the buyer set to benefit from a full-size football pitch on the mansion’s grounds.

Rod is now expected to live full-time in another home near the village of Sawbridgeworth, on the Hertfordshire-Essex borders.

While his wife, ex-model Penny Lancaster, has become a volunteer police officer, even working at King Charles’ coronation last year, Rod has opted to get involved politically.

After hearing how long some have to wait for medical scans on the NHS, he told Sky News: “In all my years in this country I’ve never seen it so bad… change the b****y government!”
